Position Summary
Anticipated Hiring Hourly Range: $17.00 - $20.50 per hour.
The primary dispatcher's responsibility is to operate the radio, telephone, or computer equipment at the Fresno Pacific University Campus Safety Communications Center. Dispatchers will receive reports from the public related to crimes, disturbances, fires, and medical or police emergencies. They will relay information to Campus Safety, law enforcement, and emergency response personnel. May need to maintain contact with caller until responders arrive. Dispatchers will also maintain computer-aided dispatch data entry and monitor surveillance cameras at all university campuses.

Receive calls concerning crimes, emergencies, and other requests for police assistance.Monitors and respond to 911 calls from the university system and campus "Blue Light" emergency telephones.Collect pertinent information from callers and disseminate that information to responding officers and or University Departments.Determine the priority level of requests for services and mitigate those calls that can be handled without a need for committing department resources to a response.Broadcasts orders to patrol officers in the vicinity to investigate complaints or requests when appropriate and relays instructions or questions from remote units.Maintain the CAD records of all responses for Campus Safety.Process all paperwork, data entry, and alert notifications for missing persons, stolen vehicles, arrested individuals, etc.Keep senior police and fire staff and town officials informed 24-hrs a day of noteworthy incidents and emergencies.Relay radio and telephone messages between police officers and the FPU community.Performs various clerical duties, including completing the electronic dispatch log and filing police reports.Serve as a clearinghouse for university-wide emergency call lists.Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.Ability to interact and communicate effectively with people over the telephone.Ability to effectively operate a 2-way radio communication.Ability to perform multiple tasks and solve problems in a technical setting.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma or GED required.Experience in clerical work, word processing, and/or general office skills.Knowledge of radio dispatch regulations, procedures, protocols, and/or equipment.Knowledge of fire and burglar alarm systems reporting.Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office and Computer Aided Dispatch software.Preferred
Completion of California basic public dispatcher POST. Must be within the last three to five years.Previous work experience in a university public safety department or law enforcement agencyEnvironmental Conditions:
Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.Physical Demands:
This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.Reasonable accommodations for those with disabilities will be provided in accordance with law.
