Various LocationsWorkdays & Hours: M - F, 8 am - 5 pm**Subject to changeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe mission of the Senior Project Manager position for Drinking Water Operations is to manage all aspects of the Work Management System for Maintenance and Operations, primarily focusing on projects related to the engineering and SCADA teams. The position is also responsible for coordination and supervision of 3rd party service or construction contracts and projects on-site. Serves as liaison between City personnel and contractors, consultants or testing laboratories. Projects to be managed may include construction, demolition, system upgrades, rehabilitation, and process improvements. Contracts will include various on-call and maintenance contracts. The Senior Project Manager will play a key role in preparing and managing the annual Drinking Water Operations budget. They will utilize all financial mechanisms to purchase and track assets and equipment for individual plant use. The selected candidate must communicate effectively with all levels of the organization in order to assist management of the many projects, programs, and personnel. Supervisory duties of the Senior Project Manager include hiring, training and supervising staff, employee evaluations, and coaching or corrective action when necessary. The Senior Project Manager will need to be proficient in the City of Houston Kronos and Talent Management Systems and will maintain vital project records and create or provide reports for management and other professional input for decision-making and planning. This position is also required to take part in the everyday plant processes and help run jar tests and take samples to ensure plants are operating efficientlyWORKING CONDITIONSThis position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items (up to 30 pounds) and/or occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. Occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than optimal temperature and air conditions.This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management Position at the Tier I Level.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSRequires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Physical Sciences or a closely related field.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSSix (6) years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, geo-technical, environmental or a closely related field are required.Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.LICENSE REQUIREMENTSNonePREFERENCESPreference shall be given to applicants with a Professional Engineer license as well as those that possess a TCEQ “C” or higher Water Operator License.
