Purpose of Position

Northern Kentucky University is seeking an Associate Director of Residence Life for University Housing. Reporting to the Director of University Housing, the Associate Director provides leadership for the area of residence life, which also incorporates aspects of campus partnerships, learning-living communities, assessment and evaluation, and enrollment management and retention. This individual works closely with the Director to develop a residential environment that promotes personal and academic growth for students. This position supervises one Assistant Director of Residence Life and indirectly or directly supervises one Residence Life Coordinator, one Coordinator for Residential Education, four Residence Hall Directors, three graduate-level assistants, and indirectly supervises up to 64 student staff (Resident Assistants).

Primary Responsibilities

Direct supervision of Assistant Director of Residence Life and Residence Life Coordinator. Indirect supervision of the Coordinator for Residential Education, Residence Hall Director(s), Graduate Assistants, and Resident Assistants. Provide on-going training and development for residence life professional and paraprofessional staff. Responsible for the recruitment, selection, and training of all professional, graduate, intern, and undergraduate residence life staff.Develop, implement, and oversee the assessment of a residential learning model/curriculum focused on community engagement, cultural competence, academic success, and leadership to enhance the development of community in the residential communities. Prepare unit goals and objectives for residence life and enrollment management. Assist the Director of University Housing with strategic planning.Oversee daily administrative hall operations including, but not limited to, occupancy management, room inspections, and duty schedules. Coordinate the collection of various data such as crime statistics, department annual report data, retention, and quality of life survey data. Track, reconcile, and submit scheduled reports for residence life and enrollment management operations.Manage the budget for residence life, including responsibility for 2 university-issued credit cards and oversight of spending procedures and processes.Develop, cultivate, and steward relationships with campus partners in the development of new academic initiatives in University Housing and maintain and improve learning-living communities. Collaborate with departments to develop new programs and initiatives that support student life. Specifically work with International Student and Scholar Services, Latino Programs & Services, and African-American Programs & Services, and the Office of First Year Programs to assist with the recruitment and retention of under-represented students.Serve as the principle judicial officer within University Housing regarding the enforcement of policies, hear all appeals, and maintain judicial files for the department. Additionally, serve as the primary point of contact for all students of concerns tracking, support management, and follow up.Qualifications

Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Education, or Counseling strongly preferred. Five years professional post-master's Housing/Residence Life Experience, two years of live-on Housing/Residence Life experience, two years' experience supervising full-time employees. Equivalent experience includes a Bachelor's Degree, 7-10 years of professional experience in Housing/Residence Life, including 2 years of live-on Housing/Residence Life experience, and three years supervising full-time professional Housing/Residence Life staff. Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive without restriction. Excellent planning, organizational, presentation, programming, supervision, customer service, and human relations skills. Effectively communicate in both oral and written contexts. Creative in managing challenges and change, able to perform under pressure, excellent with crisis management, and able to work with diverse constituents.Preferred qualifications include experience designing or implementing a residential curriculum, attendance/participation in the Residential Curriculum Institute/Institute for the Curricular Approach, experience with crisis management and mitigation, experience developing professional staff, experience working with students and parents in challenging situations, and experience documenting process and policy.Minimum Education
