Job Summary:Reporting to the head brewer and director of operations, this position involves all aspects of working in a brewery including wort production, fermentation, transfers, yeast management, and packaging. The right candidate will have impeccable attention to detail, be focused on quality, safety-minded, efficient, a great work ethic, a positive attitude and the desire to be part of our team.
Job Requirements:
Experience as a wort production brewer and cellar personBrewery education is highly desirableImpeccable attention to detail and quality controlAbility to take direction and follow brewery SOPsTo work both independently and in a team environmentPossess a mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skillsAbility to multitask, manage time and prioritize work duties while being detail orientedFlexible schedule (rotating schedule may include early morning shifts and evening shifts)Have a passion for quality craft beer and the industryMust be at least 21 years of age and authorized to work in CaliforniaEnsure you are punctual, regular in attendance and have a positive attitudeReliable transportation
Duties and ResponsibilitiesBrewhouse operations:
Mill grain and stage recipes accuratelyMashingLauteringBoilingWhirlpoolingKnockoutGrain outFull Brewhouse CIP including Heat Exchanger
Cellar-Related operations:
Fermenter and BBT CIP and SanitationTank TransfersYeast Management including harvesting and pitchingChecking Gravities/Monitoring fermentation and recording appropriatelyDry-hop and fine fermentersChecking DO and Co2 in beer using a Anton Parr CBoxGeneral brewery cleaning
Packaging operations (occasional):
Assist on the packaging line, when requiredAssist with keg washing and kegging beer, when required
Quality Assurance Operations:
Pitch RatesGravity MeasurementsDO MeasurementsYeast Viability MeasurementTaste Panel
Other:
Upholding quality standardsMaintain workplace safetyKeep detailed records of materials and process steps usedMaintain a clean work environment at all timesContinually lift, drag, carry and manipulate hoses, parts, pumps and buckets and grain binSanitation of all beer contact surfaces and equipmentPerform other related duties as assignedOperating forklift and dry hopping lift safely
Physical requirements:
The job is physical and the applicant must be able to bend over, kneel, crouch, twist and stand for the duration of a shiftLift 55lbs and maneuver 160lbs repeatedlyHandling of hazardous chemicals safelyOperate complex machineryMust be able to work on a ladder at heightsTemperatures within the brewery are extreme for long periods of time and the work environment can be hot, cold, wet and noisy
