7:00 A.M - 7:30 P.M.Starting salary is commensurate with years of RN experienceThe Clinical Nurse I is a registered professional nurse provider who is responsible for providing safe patient-centered nursing care for Intermediate Care patients. The Clinical Nurse I applies knowledge of the nursing process to implement nursing practice and perform technical skills for patient care delivery. Competent nursing practice is accomplished through the application of scientific principles of nursing, problem-solving skills, and demonstrated teaching/learning experiences.Typical Duties

Performs admission and ongoing patient assessment

Performs admission assessment on assigned patients upon arrival to the Intermediate Care Unit. Obtains assessment information from patients/significant others as appropriate.Collects assessment data as a basis for formulating nursing diagnosis and provides appropriate age-specific care.Performs ongoing and scheduled reassessments according to divisional/unit standards.Performs transfer and discharge assessments on assigned patients when transferred/discharged from the department.Demonstrates knowledge of decontamination process.

Creates a plan of care based on assessed needs

Establishes nursing diagnosis, desired outcomes, and interventions from collected assessment data.Collaborates with patients, significant others, and other healthcare team members in planning care during hospitalization.Develops nursing plan of care that is consistent with the therapies of other disciplines.Communicates with patient and significant others the nursing plan of care.

Implements the nursing plan of care

Performs interventions in a competent, skillful, and safe manner.Prioritizes interventions according to patient needs.Applies principles of growth and development across the lifespan in providing age-appropriate care.

Evaluates effectiveness of care and revises interventions as appropriate

Evaluates patient's responses to interventions performed and documents appropriately.Modifies and implements interventions as appropriate.

Documents appropriately

Records accurately, concisely, and legibly in black ink or in the electronic medical record.

Demonstrates leadership ability

Performs charge nurse/team leader responsibilities competently when assigned.

Demonstrates effective communications

Demonstrates ability to communicate accurately, clearly, and concisely, orally, written, and electronically.

Demonstrates awareness of patient/family rights and ethical/legal issues

Maintains confidentiality in all patient-related information.Takes appropriate actions to address ethical concerns.

Participates actively in staff orientation and staff development activities for the unit.Recognizes own learning needs and seeks opportunities to meet them.Provides patient-centered care taking into consideration the age-specific needs.Makes appropriate and timely decisions in a crisis or emergency situation.Provides general direction, guidance, and coordination of patient care given by other levels of nursing staff.Applies knowledge of standard operating policies and procedures.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications

Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois or ability to obtain license two (2) weeks prior to starting employment (must provide proof at the time of interview if already obtained).Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must provide proof at the time of interview if already obtained).Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or ability to obtain prior to conclusion of orientation (must provide proof at the time of interview if already obtained).Preferred Qualifications

One (1) to five (5) years of acute care experience.CCRN, PCCN, NIH Stroke, or other specialty certification.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of emergency procedures (e.g., fire/evacuation internal/external disaster plans).Strong interpersonal skills.Written and verbal communication skills.Analytical skill, problem-solving skills.Ability to read and interpret Electrocardiogram (EKG) strips.Physical and Environmental Demands
