Community Engagement Program SpecialistSafe Harbor:The Safe Harbor Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP) is a multidisciplinary program at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center serving victims of interpersonal and community violence. Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma Center and safety-net hospital that serves the Los Angeles Harbor and South Los Angeles communities. The Safe Harbor HVIP is a collaboration between the Division of Trauma Surgery, the Department of Emergency Medicine, and the Department of Social Work, in connection with our community partner, Southern California Crossroads. Our mission is to provide victims of interpersonal and community violence with intensive, long-term case management to help support their healing and recovery after trauma, to promote the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve, and to collaborate with organizations that promote community empowerment and sustainability. We are seeking a part-time Community Engagement Program Specialist to assist the HVIP in developing and strengthening our community engagement strategies.Position Summary:The Community Engagement Program Specialist supports the strategic planning goals of Safe Harbor through various initiatives aimed at promoting community empowerment and sustainability. This position involves working with the Program Coordinator and Safe Harbor Leadership Team to research youth and leadership development best practices, further community engagement efforts, as well as strengthen relationships with community-based organizations and the violence prevention landscape in the Los Angeles County Harbor Community. The Program Specialist will be responsible for the administration and delivery of community engagement programs in the Los Angeles County Harbor area, with a focus on the design and implementation of a leadership development curriculum for promising youth and young adults. The Program Specialist will work collaboratively with staff and community partners to carry out this program.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Perform needs assessment and initial program evaluation to develop a community engagement strategic plan.Hold community stakeholder convenings to align programmatic vision with the priorities of our clients and local communities.Conduct outreach to recruit youth and young adults for leadership development programming.Coordinate and supervise the activities and schedules for program participants.Provide direct mentorship, lead groups, and conduct workshops for program participants.Maintain and expand effective collaborative relationships with schools, community-based organizations, and the Los Angeles County violence prevention network.Monitor program activities and prepare program reports.Qualifications:Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.2 years’ experience in community-based organization, preferably working in public health, community engagement and organizing, or violence intervention.Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for work experience.Valid Class C Driver License.Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and social media.Public speaking and presentation experience preferred.Effective project management skills.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to problem solve and multi-task.Self-motivated and detail-oriented.Positive and professional approach to teamwork and collaboration.Familiarity with the Los Angeles County Harbor Area a plus, as well as working with persons of color.Ability to travel locally for work and to work nights and weekends on occasion.Experience leading groups and facilitating workshops.Should have a broad knowledge of current social justice and health equity issues, specifically as they relate to youth and the communities of the Los Angeles County Harbor Area.Knowledge of and interest in health equity and social justice issues.Clearance Required: County Livescan and health screening.Salary and Benefits:This position is hired through The Lundquist Institute and is a grant-supported position through 3/31/2026.
