Context of Job:

Established in 1956, DFRC is a well-respected Delaware foundation dedicated to raising funds and consciousness in support of programs that enrich the lives of Delawareans with intellectual disABILITIES. As a private, nonprofit organization, we focus on funding community-based programs that support DFRC’s mission to enrich the lives of Delawareans with intellectual disABILITIES.

DFRC is currently seeking an experienced professional who is a strong collaborative leader and innovative thinker to serve as Executive Director. This is a permanent, full-time position that requires flexibility and hours beyond a traditional work day. The work of DFRC is led by the Executive Director and supported by a three-person office staff as well as volunteers. Previous experience leading small teams and/or recruiting and working with volunteers is essential to demonstrate the ability to successfully manage the annual calendar of events.

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree, extensive experience leading and holding teams accountable for results, recruiting and managing volunteers, and experience with non-profit organizations and the special needs community. The candidate will be a multi-tasker who is patient, passionate, and self-motivated to lead annual fundraising events and oversee related financial matters.

Basic Responsibilities:

The Executive Director will oversee the daily operations of DFRC. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Develop and maintain working relationships with sponsors, beneficiaries, and other organizations related to the promotion, funding, and support of DFRC activities as DFRC’s chief spokesperson.

Assert strong communication skills, specifically written, oral and listening skills.

Develop and implement long-range and annual plans in collaboration with the Board of Trustees, committees, and office staff.

Make recommendations and advise the Board of Trustees on matters pertaining to policy and programs and carry out the directions of the Board of Trustees.

Recruit, hire, supervise, train, and evaluate each member of the office staff, and delegate their duties in order to produce events and programs that are aligned with the goals and objectives of DFRC.

Manage event leaders and oversee volunteers to assure that they are acting in accordance with the policies and procedures of DFRC. Evaluate the volunteer leaders of the fundraising events on an annual basis.

Develop and maintain relationships with beneficiaries and organizations that provide services and/or advocate for persons with intellectual disABILITIES in Delaware.

Assist the Beneficiaries Committee in evaluating and making recommendations to the Board of Trustees on the programs that are most likely to benefit persons with intellectual disABILITIES in Delaware and are consistent with the mission statement of DFRC.

Assure that long-term and short-term plans are developed and implemented to meet DFRC financial objectives.

Act as Board member partner for leadership and vision for solicitation and cultivation of donors and corporate sponsors.

Establish regular contact and communication with donor and corporate sponsor base in order to maintain or expand contributions.

Expand donor and corporate sponsorship base.

Assist the treasurer in preparing an annual budget for DFRC and maintaining fiscal controls at all organizational levels.

Assure that a periodic audit is conducted by an independent certified public accounting firm and work with the treasurer to provide all financial reports and updates to the Board of Trustees.

Maintain responsibility for general management of DFRC operations, administration, finance, development and public relations within the framework of DFRC’s mission statement and by-laws.

Annual salary will range between $80,000 and $120,000, computed in accordance with the education, experience, and training of the individual selected and in accordance with salary schedules for employees of DFRC; benefit package includes vacation, sick leave and medical allowance.

A criminal background check is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate during the interview process an understanding of diversity, equity and multicultural awareness.
