11-27-2023ABOUT UC SANTA CRUZ:UC Santa Cruz is a public university like no other in California, combining the experience of a small, liberal arts college with the depth and rigor of a major research university.DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:Colleges, Housing, and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS) Services at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz.JOB SUMMARY:Under the general supervision of the Unit Manager, the Shift Manager is responsible for the operation of a Dining Hall, Retail, or Catering facility or function, and may act as the Person in Charge (PIC) in the absence of the Senior / Food Service Manager or Unit Manager.APPOINTMENT INFORMATION:Budgeted Salary:

Full benefitsSchedule Information:Full-time, FixedPercentage of Time: 100%, 40 Hours per WeekDays of the Week: to be determined and discussed at interviewShift Includes: Day, Evening, Weekends - to be determined and discussed at interviewJOB DUTIES:Food Service Operations (45%):Responsible for monitoring employee productivity and directing the day-to-day operations of the facility and staff.Prepares schedules and sets deadlines to ensure timely completion of work.Analyzes and evaluates productivity in assigned area.Provides direction and training to staff in food preparation and service.Human Resource Management (20%):Assists and supports Unit Managers and Senior / Food Service Managers in all facets of Human Resource Management.The Shift Manager motivates staff to strive for the highest quality food production and service.Quality Assurance (15%):The Shift Manager participates in on-going customer service programs.Food Safety, Safety, Security and Sanitation (15%):Ensures that all products are stored and served at proper temperatures.Ensures a safe working environment throughout the unit for all employees.Other Duties (5%):Will drive campus-owned vehicles and/or a personal vehicle to perform various duties.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalent certification/experience.ServSafe Certification or equivalent certification.Demonstrated experience in management, especially related to food services.Excellent interpersonal skills.Experience in restaurant/food service operations.Demonstrated computer skills.Knowledge of safety techniques, procedures, and operations.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Ability to speak Spanish or willingness to learn.Experience in using Food Pro Food Service Management System.SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California.SAFETY STATEMENT:All UCSC employees must understand and follow job safety procedures.EEO/AA:The University of California is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
