Mrs. Gerry’s was founded in 1973 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Mrs. Gerry’s is a premier salad and side manufacturer and offers 120 different products which are sold coast to coast. Title : Director of Operations

Reports To : VP of Operations & Supply Chain

HOURS : 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. end times vary due to production and business needs

DAYS : Monday – Friday primarily

STATUS : Exempt

SUPERVISION : Leads the production, processing, packaging, finished goods warehouse, quality assurance, sanitation, and maintenance departments.

SUMMARY

The Director of Operations successfully guides all aspects of manufacturing, quality assurance, maintenance, finished product storage/loadouts with direct reports of day shift and night shift Production Managers, QA Manager, Maintenance Manager, Production Planners, Production analyst, and others as necessary. This position reports to VP of Operations and Supply Chain and has strong peer relationships with Finance, Procurement, Sales, HR, IT, Logistics, Customer Service, etc. They direct and coordinate all activities of plant by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers and supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ; a representation of the position and other duties may be assigned.

Provides leadership and direction to the plant in all areas of responsibility including and not limited to planning, production, processing, packaging, cold storage, and shipping.

Supports plant leadership in overseeing the overall activities of the manufacturing facilities of the plant to ensure customer orders are received, scheduled, produced, and shipped safely at the lowest landed cost and standards to meet the customers' requirements and service level agreements while maintaining established quality standards.

Analyzes plant operations and key metrics to maintain operational efficiencies within each department.

Is responsible for expense management and control, including shrink, yield, labor, and overhead costs utilizing Continuous Improvement techniques.

Provides leadership to the inventory and production team to ensure adequate inventory of raw materials, and proper receipt, data entry, and confirmation is completed accurately and timely.

Collects and reports reliable information to measure the performance of the plant and of the various plant departments as required.

Is responsible for ensuring customer needs are satisfied through scheduling processes which ensure that products are manufactured, loaded, and shipped to our various customers at the ordered quantities and on the required day.

Ensures that appropriate SOPs are developed, executed, and maintained for all aspects of our business.

Is responsible for meeting all regulatory requirement and rules.

Involved in all food safety, HACCP, and internal audit processes.

Assists Technical Support staff on resolution of customer complaints and issues of product quality.

Provides management of employees directly or through supervisors to ensure effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action, and performance management.

Cooperates in a cross-functional manner as a change agent with all departments within the Company.

Leads by example. This includes ensuring compliance with all company policies, standards, and specifications.

Engages in the typical responsibilities of a director or manager requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and delegating.

Sets the performance management goals for the local leadership team and provides performance reviews at the company specified sequence.

A member of the safety leadership committee, demonstrating operational commitment, and prioritize our Value of People & Safety.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrate qualities of a Director of Operations; industry experience, analytical, ability to make quick decisions, integrity, problem solve, patient, good listener and empathetic, people first leadership, confidentiality, and good communication; verbal, written, and presentation.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in operations management.

Professional certifications in operations management, supply chain management, data analysis, or personnel management are an asset.

Preferred: a minimum of 10 years in an operations role and minimum of 5 years of plant leadership experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

In-depth knowledge of consumer product goods manufacturing is ideal.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and possess strong financial acumen.

All personal protective equipment (PPE) is required (in the plant and areas defined as PPE essential).
