The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Payroll and Leave Management, the Payroll Analyst provides operational, administrative and analytical support for Columbia University Facilities, Morningside Campus.

Responsibilities

The Payroll Analyst is responsible for processing payroll for weekly, biweekly, and semimonthly employees. This role ensures the accuracy of data in the payroll system, including attendance, leave balance records, and overtime tracking, while ensuring compliance with union guidelines and university policies.

Key responsibilities include:

Data Accuracy and Compliance:

Maintain accurate payroll system data, ensuring adherence to union guidelines and university policies.

Personnel Action Forms:

Prepare Personnel Action Forms as needed and coordinate with University Payroll and HRPC on leaves of absence, payroll transactions, and other HR issues.

Reporting and Analysis:

Provide reports to support payroll activities, monitor and update payroll-related reports and spreadsheets, and collaborate with CUF IT to create additional reports as required.

Guidance and Support:

Offer guidance to the CUF HR team, department managers, and supervisors on utilizing reports, identifying issues and trends, and recommending solutions or process changes to meet goals and improve operational efficiencies.

Process Evaluation:

Analyze the impact of process changes, research and handle payroll inquiries, and ensure timely and appropriate follow-up.

Schedule Monitoring:

Monitor the University’s pay schedule, including collective bargaining agreements, wage, and accrual schedules, and disseminate information related to University payroll deadlines.

Documentation:

Assist with documenting internal operating procedures and guidelines.

Additional Duties:

Perform other related duties and projects as directed by the Director of Human Resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and/or combination of education and experience required. A minimum of 3 to 5 years experience with demonstrated working knowledge of principles and practices of payroll management.

Demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

Ability to proactively and assertively anticipate issues and address them as they arise. Track record of taking personal ownership/responsibility for delivering on departmental and organizational commitments.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively partnering with others. Proven ability to apply good judgment, maintain confidence, and manage confidential information and material.

Ability to be precise and attentive to detail. Strong word processing, database management, and spreadsheet skills, preferably with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.

Must have proficiency with client/server HRIS applications, preferably PeopleSoft.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in Human Resources or Accounting preferred.

Kronos experience strongly preferred.
