Columbia, MarylandThe Peabody Children's Chorus is seeking applications for a part-time Assistant Director for the 2024-25 season.Since its establishment in 1990, the Chorus has grown from 30 to over 350 singers in 11 rehearsing ensembles and 3 preparatory classes.As well as touring in Italy, France, Germany, Austria, England, Scotland, and Hawaii, the Chorus has performed with many local ensembles including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Choral Arts Society, and Peabody Symphony Orchestra.The Peabody Children's Chorus values the highest artistic standards in all dimensions of our program, including choice of repertoire, tone of concerts, sound of ensembles, musicology, and performance practice; we believe in a philosophy of education that fosters self-growth and discipline through the pursuit of excellence, beauty, and concrete musical skills.We are searching for a teacher who will nurture each chorister's potential for artistic and personal excellence, and who will foster a love of music through skill-based learning.Artistic & Teaching Responsibilities

7.5 hours per week:Monday & Thursday 4:45-7:15 pm (Columbia)Tuesday 4:45-7:15 pm (Towson)Under the leadership of and in collaboration with the Director, the Assistant Director:co-teaches Training Choir (ages 6-10) and Choristers (ages 10-12)helps to plan, implement, and evaluate the artistic year and educational programassists with recruitment, evaluations, and auditions for new and continuing studentsattends weekly planning meetingsEducation Requirements

Bachelor's degree in music from an accredited institutionSpecific Qualifications

Minimum of three years' experience teaching and/or conducting; piano proficiency is desirableExperience teaching elementary and/or middle-school age singersKnowledge of vocal pedagogy, including moveable-do solfège; an understanding of the young voice, age 6-12Strong communication and organizational skillsPlease submit:A video recording (link to YouTube) including footage (not more than 10 minutes) of:Choral warm-ups or conducting, orGeneral music teaching (includes singing)Sample programs, highlights from repertoire (if available)2-3 professional referencesJob Type: Part TimeJohns Hopkins University is committed to active recruitment of a diverse faculty and student body.
