The Category Manager will own the full category management lifecycle process for large, global categories, including development of the detailed strategy and identification of opportunities. They also own strategy implementation and execution, define annual goals, and be the primary owner of the supplier relationship process. This role will work closely with all collaborators to ensure that the strategies are implemented to the benefit of the company.
What You’ll Do
Develop and implement multi-year category strategies to meet company objectives and department goals such as: cost savings, supplier rationalization, and risk mitigation, while ensuring quality and service levels are maintained.
Lead the end-to-end procurement process for indirect categories (professional services, marketing, HR, facilities, IT, travel, and utilities, etc.)
Identify, evaluate, and select qualified suppliers, negotiate favorable contracts, achieve creative commercial outcomes and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure optimal pricing, terms, and performance.
Collaborate with internal partners, such as business groups, legal, and operations, to understand their requirements and provide procurement expertise and support.
Conduct regular market analysis and benchmarking to stay informed of industry trends, pricing, and standard processes, and apply this knowledge to drive continuous improvement in procurement processes.
Drive supplier performance management by establishing key performance indicators, monitoring supplier performance against targets, regular business reviews and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Lead cross-functional teams to create sourcing strategies, RFPs, RFIs, and supplier selection processes to support business needs and initiatives.
Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the supply market, supplier capabilities, supply and demand balance and industry innovations to support the business’s long-term strategic goals.
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while executing procurement activities.
What You’ll Bring to the Table
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, supply chain management, or related field. Preferred master’s degree or equivalent experience professional certification (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) is a plus.
Demonstrated ability (at least 6 years) of progressively increasing responsibility in indirect procurement, strategic sourcing, or category management, preferably within footwear/ consumer goods.
Proven track record of at least 4 years of successfully managing indirect procurement categories and delivering cost savings and benefits to the organization.
Strong understanding of procurement practices, sophisticated contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management.
Excellent analytical, financial competence, and quantitative skills to assess and analyze complex data sets and make informed decisions.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, influence collaborators at all levels of the organization and build consensus.
Proficiency in procurement and sourcing technologies and tools, such as e-sourcing, spend analysis, and contract management systems (SAP, Ariba, Power BI, Coupa etc.)
Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships.
Comfortable with ambiguity and self-motivated to identify trends and improvement opportunities aligned with business objectives and strategic plans.
Results focused, with a drive for continuous improvement, desire to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to a given audience, present information in a clear and concise manner.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to extract key themes, determine root cause(s), implement corrective action(s) as needed and develop creative solutions to complex problems.
