General Summary of PositionProvides patient care and technical support to anesthesiologist and certified registered nurse anesthetist by ensuring that anesthesia supplies and equipment, in the Operating rooms, Labor & Delivery suites, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, MedSTAR, Burn Unit and other anesthesia locations, are clean and functional.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Inspects and tests anesthesia equipment to ensure that equipment is readily available, clean and in good operating condition. Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and minor repairs on instruments and equipment. Delivers malfunctioning equipment to the Biomedical Engineering department.Assists anesthesiologist and certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) in airway management of patients. Sets-up fiberoptic equipment, invasive monitoring equipment, transducer cables and tubing, fluid and head humidifiers, pacemakers, esophageal pacing and electrodes.Delivers emergency anesthesia machines, carts and materials to operating rooms, MedSTAR and other hospital satellite locations.Sterilizes laryngoscope blades and fiber-optic equipment. Collects and prepares other anesthesia instruments and equipment for sterilization by Sterile Processing Department (SPD).Draws medication into syringes, dates, labels and distributes to anesthesia stations. Sets-up anesthesia stations with medications and intravenous fluids for emergency surgery.Receives, inspects and exchanges carts and bulk supplies from Medical Materials department. Coordinates the movement of all incoming, stored and reused anesthesia materials between Receiving, Medical Materials, Biomedical Engineering, Sterile Processing Department, Operating room and other areas.Inspects and stocks Code Blue boxes, Latex Allergy, Malignant Hyperthermia and Anesthesia carts. Inventories carts and stocks supplies and drugs at par levels.Cleans and prepares anesthesia station between surgeries and after terminal cleaning.Assists in positioning patients for surgery.Attends in-service, classes and seminars.

Minimum QualificationsEducationHigh School Diploma or GED requiredMay require up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training in medical terminology

ExperienceSix to twelve months experience in a position involving anatomy, physiology, sterile techniques, computers, and/or electronic experience required

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesRequires the ability to read and write; and knowledge of grammar, and arithmetic including fractions and decimals.May require the use of standard office/medical equipment (i.e., typewriter, personal computer, data terminal, on-line printer, calculator, telephone, facsimile, copier, sterilizing equipment, blood pressure cuff, or tables); the preparation, comparison or checking of reports, records and related data; and basic use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings and knowledge of their application.

This position has a hiring range of $19.347 - $29.109
