Position Summary:

The Director of Catering coordinates, manages and administers the activities of the Catering Department in a manner to assure effective and friendly guest relationships.

Core Responsibilities:

Solicit banquet and catering sales business, and receive and answer all inquiries relating to the catering department.

Direct the activities of the catering department in an effort to obtain maximum profit from available business booked.

Negotiate event contracts, including menu suggestions, bar set up, room arrangements, and share negotiated details with other departments within the hotel.

Prepare and maintain reports of sales recaps, organization contacts, catering function book and catering file system.

Maintain budgeted sales quotas, and create new ideas to increase catering revenue where required. Develop overall sales action plan for the catering/sales effort for all existing markets and prospect potential markets. Monitor specific action plans for each segment developed by the respective Catering Manager and ensure they achieve booking goals each month.

Act in concert with hotel management team and property General Manager.

Train, coordinate supervise, coach and counsel associates, including managers.

Work with Executive Chef to ensure menus are updated routinely to meet guest demand. Work closely with Sales team on upcoming events.

Ensure Catering team is staffed appropriately, including interviewing, hiring, training and evaluating staff as needed.

Perform all other duties as required by the General Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

Prior experience in Catering role, demonstrating success and ability to sell and service Catering events.

Strong business communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.

High work ethic and self-initiative.

Strong computer skills in Microsoft Suite.

Some travel may be required.

Regular attendance according to established guidelines.

May be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the property.

Must possess basic computational ability.

Focus and maintain attention to tasks, and complete work assignments on time despite frequent interruptions.

Ability to maintain excellent relationships with staff and maintain staff and guest confidentiality at all times.

Ability to participate in, and at times lead departmental and/or hotel team meetings.

Physical Requirements:

Sit, stand and walk for varying lengths of time.

Lift approximately ten (10) pounds.

Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, pulling, pushing, listening and hearing ability and visual ability.

Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, multi-line phone, filing cabinets, photocopiers and other office equipment as needed.
