Pediatric Intensivist - Carilion Children’s Hospital, Roanoke, VA

Pediatric Intensivist Opportunity in the Beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of VirginiaCarilion Children’s Hospital is recruiting a pediatric intensivist. The Children’s Hospital is a hospital within a hospital model centrally located in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH). CRMH is a Level One, 763 bed, trauma and academic/tertiary care center serving Southwest Virginia with the only pediatric intensive care and dedicated pediatric unit along with Level 1 pediatric trauma center for the region. The PICU is an 8 bed unit with over 500 admissions per year. The attending team provides coverage for the PICU, dedicated NeoPeds Transport team, sedation services and inpatient quality. The intensivists have academic appointments with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and teach medical students and residents. They are Pediatric Fundamentals of Critical Care Medicine (PFCCM) course providers, running the course 4-5 times yearly.Carilion Children’s Hospital includes an 8-bed PICU, 24-bed inpatient pediatric ward, 60-bed NICU/intermediate nursery and dedicated pediatric emergency room. Serving as the tertiary referral center for 185,000 children in Southwest Virginia, the facility provides a full range of critical care services except for open heart, ECMO and transplant services. Pediatric expertise and support available in most subspecialties: Allergy, Anesthesia, Behavioral Health, Cardiology, Clinical Genetics, Developmental Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology & Oncology, Intensivists, Neonatology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pulmonary, Psychiatry, Psychology, Radiology, ENT, and Surgery.Qualifications:Completion of an ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program and pediatric critical care medicine fellowship.ABMS/AOA-BE/BC in pediatric critical care medicine.Possession of an unencumbered medical license.Sedation skills and experience would be of great benefit to the team.Experience instructing the PFCCM course is a plus.Interest and enthusiasm for clinical service and teaching residents and medical students.Research activity is encouraged and supported.The PICU team includes second and third-year pediatric residents as well as third year emergency medicine residents. The attendings are also involved with didactic resident education. This position carries a faculty appointment with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.Education and research activities and opportunities abound through our academic alliances with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the Virginia Tech Carilion Fralin Biomedical Research Institute.
