Position Summary:The Vice President of Actuarial Services leads the product and actuarial department. Manages all actuarial projects including pricing, product, reserving, modeling, and analytics. Understands business process, environment, and reinsurance. Facilitates changes. Works collaboratively across all teams and departments within Olympus Insurance Company. Strong actuarial, leadership, and communication skills. Must hold an FCAS/ACAS designation and be qualified to issue the Statement of Actuarial Opinion for Olympus in accordance with the American Academy of Actuaries qualification standards.

Job Description/Essential Functions:

Provides actuarial analyses and opinions to support Olympus’ key strategic and tactical business decisions.

Monitors and evaluates production, retention, performance of the book of business and changes in Olympus’ risk profile. Presents or participates in monthly exposure and reserves management committees for internal and external stakeholders.

Provides one- and three-year forecasts for exposures, premiums, insured values, and losses for risk management, reinsurance, and budgeting purposes.

Oversees and manages the ratemaking and reserving processes.

Participates in reinsurance program development, initiates risk transfer testing if needed.

Leads the actuarial department. Establishes performance objectives and evaluates performance. Assists in goals setting and drives for goals achievement. Develops and implements a high-quality culture.

Works with brokers, reinsurers, vendors, regulators, consulting actuaries, and other external entities.

Stays current on claim handling and underwriting practices and changes to the information system and reporting.

Stays current on industry trends, regulatory environment, emerging issues, new products, and competitor’s activities that may impact Olympus.

Skills/Requirements/Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

FCAS/ACAS designation; Fellow/Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Strong knowledge of personal lines insurance, reserving, ratemaking, and reinsurance concepts.

10+ years of actuarial experience required; 2+ years of managerial experience preferred.

Understands the homeowner’s market; Florida experience preferred.

Experience with mapping software preferred.

Experience with modeling required.

Knowledge and understanding of actuarial framework and methodology.

Knowledge of products and concepts relating to the Property and Casualty industry.

Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) skills.

Advanced SQL programming skills.

Skill in adapting to a changing work environment, competing demands and the ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events; always ensure that deadlines are met.

Must be able to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, provide strong leadership, development and mentoring for the team.

Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret program-related laws and regulations and establish necessary work processes and procedures.

Must be able to exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality in maintaining critical and sensitive information, records, and reports.

Must be able to use critical thinking skills to arrive at solutions and suggest improvements to processes.

Must be able to prepare clear, accurate and concise financial records and reports.

Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Must be able to organize work for timely completion.
