Position SummaryAssociate Director of Workforce Development and Belonging, Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center (FPBCC). Reporting to the Cancer Center Director, the Associate Director (AD) of Workforce Development and Belonging envisions, plans and leads strategies, initiatives, programs, and activities to strengthen center-wide efforts to advance equity, inclusion, and belonging. We envision developing inclusive excellence through the breaking down barriers and building of pathways to science, medicine, and healthcare for students, researchers, educators, and patients in oncology. This faculty leader will bring deep commitment to advancing equity and inclusion and will guide the development of innovative policies and programs at FPBCC.

The AD is responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of policies, programs and practices that enrich the experience of patient/patient families, employees and the broader community at FPBCC. The AD will use principles of inclusive excellence to foster a culture of belonging throughout the enterprise.

The AD is responsible for the design, delivery, and assessment of a comprehensive, evidence-based strategy that will support FPBCC strategic priority of offering the greatest care to our patients, our communities and to one another. The Director will align this work to Nebraska Medicine’s ITEACH Values through a multimodal engagement strategy that will foster a sense of belonging for every member of our community.

Specifically, this position has the following responsibilities:

Partner closely with leaders of the FPBCC and leaders of inclusive excellence across UNMC and Nebraska Medicine to develop and implement a Plan to Enhance Diversity at the FPBCC.

In collaboration with UNMC and Nebraska Medicine build and sustain leadership programs to train the next generation of cancer researchers and providers as part of the implementation of the Plan to Enhance Diversity.

Partner closely with cancer service line leaders and the College of Medicine to develop strategies to improve outcomes and health equity of our patient base.

Partner closely with basic, clinical, translational researchers to improve understanding of unique disparities, present in our population and guide researchers in utilizing culturally appropriate strategies for community engagement and participation in all facets of our research.

Partner closely with FPBCC leadership and human resources to develop and implement strategies to recruit, hire, retain, develop and advance an inclusive and culturally responsive learning community and workforce.

Build and enhance community and academic partnerships to engage a multitude of communities in the achievement of FPBCC’s inclusion and belonging goals.

Develop strategies to enhance and sustain our inclusive climate by ensuring that all voices are heard, and our community is respectful and supportive.

Regularly attends and actively participates in the monthly Director’s Council (comprised of the Associate Directors) and the Research Executive Committee (AD’s and Program Leaders).

Participates in various Cancer Center pilot project review study sections.

Required QualificationsOpen to Associate Professors and Full Professors who are faculty members in the Cancer Center.
