Are you a highly skilled Senior Equipment Operator seeking a new challenge? Look no further! The County of San Diego is currently seeking a talented individual to join our team as a Senior Equipment Operator-Inactive Waste Site!The Department and Division

The County of San Diego's Department of Public Works (DPW) is currently seeking qualified applicants for Senior Equipment Operator, to fill a current vacant position for the department's Inactive Waste Site Management Unit. DPWs Closed Landfill Management Unit manages the County's closed landfills and former refuse burning sites (burn sites). Although these sites no longer accept municipal solid waste (trash), continued monitoring and maintenance is required to minimize impacts to the environment and to protect public health and safety.

The Position

As a Senior Equipment Operator, you will support the operation and maintenance of inactive solid waste landfill and burn sites, ensuring projects and staff are operating within appropriate safety guidelines, operating heavy and other construction equipment to maintain County closed landfills and burn sites in compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory standards, and directing the work of subordinate staff.

Minimum Qualifications

A valid California Class B driver's license with a tank endorsement and without transmission or air brake restrictions, and a current medical card is required at time of appointment and both must be maintained throughout employment in this class; AND,

Two (2) years of experience as an Equipment Operator with the County of San Diego; OR,Three (3) years of experience operating motorized equipment in the construction or maintenance of roadways or sewer lines. Such experience must have included the operation of motor-graders, mechanical or vacuum brooms, backhoes, loaders, sewer rodders and dump trucks of various sizes and capacities.Condition of Employment

As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.

Evaluation

Qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment application.
