Position Opening: Vice President of Operations

(Full-time position starting October 2024)

This role exists to support and implement the Mission of Magnificat High School. As a member of the School’s Leadership Team, the Vice President of Operations advances the strategic objectives of the School by providing leadership in all operational functions of the school. The Vice President of Operations maintains the business operations, develops strategies to improve management practices, and introduces efficiencies and financial processes to advance business operations. The Vice President of Operations provides proactive leadership to engage community members in the development and implementation of human resources and business practices to support the School’s Mission in service to its students and families.

Exempt, Full time, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (Budgeted 2080 hours)

Position Summary:

Serves as a member of the School Leadership Team, collaborating with other administrators and reporting to the President.

Acts as the School’s operational leader with a thorough understanding of financial and strategic management, human resources operations, and facilities management.

Sets strategic goals and objectives to meet evolving organizational needs in alignment with the Mission and Values of Magnificat High School.

Acts in a manner consistent with the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church, the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, and the Mission and Values of Magnificat High School.

Collaborates with the Vice President of Mission to integrate the Mission and Values of Magnificat High School, Catholic Identity, and the Heritage of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary into the School’s policies, procedures, and employee programs.

Works with the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and with all constituents to promote the ongoing creation of an equitable and inclusive community.

Builds strong relationships and employs a restorative approach in relationships with students, faculty and staff, guardians, and families to address the operational needs.

Finance

Works with the Senior Director of Finance to coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurement, or investment activities of the School.

Oversees the development, administration, and reporting of the operating and long-term budget to the President and Board of Directors.

Develops and manages, with the President and Finance Committee, the annual operating budget, including budgets related to special projects and/or capital campaigns.

Develops and maintains a system of financial operating policies and procedures for the school.

Provides transparent financial reporting and planning that builds trust among stakeholders.

Oversees the administration of the School’s endowment and coordinates with endowment consultants and investment managers.

Manages the School’s lending relationships, including debt instruments and planning.

Ensures that the School employs a Mission-based effective methodology in the administration of the financial aid and scholarship program.

Negotiates and monitors all contracts for operational engagements of the School.

Human Resources

Collaborates with School leadership to provide thorough and equitable processes regarding employee hiring, termination, compensation, and management.

Ensures sound and consistent employment policies, adequate staffing levels, compensation, and appropriate benefits programs.

Leads strategic personnel policies decisions and ensures consistent application of these policies.

Supports the Human Resources and Operations Manager in handling all aspects of employee insurance benefits.

Develops, negotiates, administers, and evaluates all employee benefits programs.

Collaborates with the school’s legal counsel regarding all legal and risk management matters.

Facilities

With School leadership, develops and maintains the master plan for the facilities and grounds of the school.

Oversees the physical plant, grounds, and construction functions with the Director of Facilities.

Oversees all school operations including personnel, maintenance, food service, safety and security, building rentals, and financial transactions.

Other Duties and Expectations

Reports to the President regularly and to the Board as requested.

Works directly with chairs of the Finance, Investment, and Facilities committees of the Board.

Attends all Advancement committee meetings as representative of financial functions of the school.

Performs other duties as requested by the President or delegated individual.

Develops cultural competency through increased awareness of individual identity, culture, and biases.

Ability to work extended days, evenings, and weekends periodically, as needed.

Position qualifications:

Education :

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources or other related area required.

Master’s in Business Administration or Human Resources preferred.

Work Experience and Knowledge :

Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated successful business management and operations experience.

At least 5 years of education administration and/or non-profit management is preferred.

Proven ability to build relationships and work successfully with diverse backgrounds.

Sound financial knowledge as demonstrated through ability to create, manage, and analyze departmental and project budgets.

Broad knowledge of human resources best practices.

Proficient Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Gmail, and Google Drive.

Knowledge of finance and accounting principles including GAAP.

Familiarity with third party payroll processors and financial software.

Awareness of legal issues surrounding education and student confidentiality.
