Job Description

The primary role of the Associate Director of Operations is to provide program operational support to the KC STEM Alliance and its associated initiatives in preparing more students for college and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM.) As an independent initiative of the UMKC School of Science and Engineering, the vision of the KC STEM Alliance is to transform communities through innovative STEM education and opportunities for all. The Associate Director of Operations works in partnership with the Executive Director to support educational events for students, educators, and the community-at-large including contracting, purchasing, volunteer management and connectivity among all related staff and contractors.

DUTIES

Provide structural oversight of events for FIRST, Project Lead The Way, and STEM Connect-KC programs delivered by the KC STEM Alliance.

Initiate and direct development of office policies and procedures.

Interface with UMKC School of Science and Engineering fiscal officer to manage daily financial duties to include accounts receivable, accounts payable, and deposits.

Manage KC Engineering Zone.

Assist Executive Director with preparation of budget and financial reports.

Oversee and track education, team, and competition grants given by KC STEM Alliance.

Make recommendations on continuous improvement of processes and operations.

Take part in developing KC STEM’s strategic planning and assist in implementation of that strategic plan.

Provide general support to the Executive Director, such as responding to inquiries and attending events when the Executive Director is otherwise engaged.

Assist the KC STEM team with hiring, onboarding, and offboarding.

Schedule and manage space with community partners.

Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with all KC STEM stakeholders.

Knowledge of the Kansas City non-profit ecosystem.

Proficient in the use of personal computers, office productivity software, and common business computer technologies (e.g., Windows, Word, Excel, printers, copiers, and scanners), university data storage systems, listservs, and the like.

Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

Ability to multitask to complete a wide variety of tasks and projects.

Attention to detail to ensure tasks are completed thoroughly and correctly.

Flexibility to adjust to new strategies, procedures, and tasks as the organization evolves.

Collaborative problem solving by seeking input and ideas from others.

Ability to function without close supervision.

Knowledge of the university a plus, but not required.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$52,000 - $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday – Friday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with weekends, evenings as needed.

Limited domestic travel.
