Goodwill Industries of Kentucky is looking for an energetic, self-motivated, dynamic professional Chief External Affairs Officer to join our team! The Chief External Affairs Officer is responsible for leading Goodwill’s overall government relations, fundraising, marketing, public relations, and communication functions in a manner that advances the agency’s ability to fulfill its mission. Essential Duties and Tasks:

Government Relations

Leads the development of a policy agenda, with emphasis on policies that directly affect the lives of the people Goodwill assists.

Leads development and execution of Goodwill’s strategy for effective engagement with federal, state and local governments.

Builds and maintains strong agency relationships with key policymakers, legislators and staff at federal, state and local levels.

Initiates or joins coalitions to promote Goodwill’s legislative goals and works collaboratively with Goodwill Industries International and other local Goodwills.

Fund Raising

Develops and implements a plan to generate gifts in support of the agency’s mission from individuals, corporations, and foundations, including annual gifts, planned gifts, capital campaigns and other philanthropic or in-kind gifts.

Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards current and potential donors capable of major gifts and bequests.

Marketing/Communications

Oversees implementation of a consistent, unified brand image, promoting the agency’s unique value proposition in its communities. Develops, recommends, and oversees brand positioning to achieve agency goals with respect to targeted constituencies.

Provides leadership to achieve an effective agency-wide approach to providing superior internal and external customer experience.

Plans and oversees advertising, promotional activities, other communications and printed materials, to meet Goodwill’s goals and the needs of internal customers.

Other

Participates with other executive staff and Board in formulating and updating the agency’s strategic plan, with particular focus on areas within his/her responsibility.

Prepares an annual plan and budget for areas supervised and is accountable for achieving goals and operating within budget.

Ensures compliance with all agency policies, procedures and safety standards throughout areas supervised, and maintains same to meet CARF, Department of Labor, HIPAA, other legal and regulatory standards, and Goodwill’s code of ethics.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in related area required, Master’s Degree preferred.

Must have five (5) years in government relations or fund raising.

Must have five (5) years of management experience.

Physical Demands:

This job may have physical requirements that are considered sedentary work. Sedentary work involves sitting for long periods of time; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing, and visual acuity.

Travel to other locations beyond the assigned work location is frequently required.
