General Responsibilities- Responsible for creating, planning, implementing and evaluating artistic educational programs and creative & engaging outreach initiatives that are best aligned with Fountain City Performing Arts mission and vision.
Education- Execute and oversee the Youth Outreach program, including:
Facilitating workshops with GSA (Gender & Sexuality Alliance, or similar organizations) students, advisors
Provide choral clinics/masterclasses with choral students
Identify and coordinate volunteers for each school assembly
Facilitate Q&A during performances and in a post-performance gathering with students and OVKC singers
Manage a school-based initiative. Includes working with teachers, administrators to foster school improvement through the arts; overseeing curriculum design and implementation.
Identify educational trends that may present new opportunities for the organization and recommend a course of action.
Outreach- Execute and oversee the Youth Outreach program, including:
Collaborate with community partners to assess community needs – plan and develop youth programming in relationship to those needs
Serve as advocate and promotor of FCPA and its youth programs' education and outreach initiatives
Building partnerships with community social service organizations, park & recreation departments and welcoming places of worship
Administrative
Communicate the overall program and experience, to include budgeting in collaboration with the artistic director to the managing director and board of directors
Contribute to funding proposals for education and community outreach initiatives in collaboration with managing director
Engage in active communications with the board of directors, board committees, funders, parents/guardian, other members of the Kansas City metropolitan, cultural community, and other groups, as appropriate
Other contributions to the Artistic Team
Assistant artistic director of the OUTside VoicesKC Chorus
Sectionals and Solo Auditions
Rehearsal conductor in the absence of the artistic director
Conduct one or two pieces per concert
Attend monthly staff meeting
Represent the Youth Outreach program at concerts and events
Create and manage youth recruitment initiatives and projects
Serve as point of contact within the Gay and Lesbian Association (GALA) youth chorus network
Assist artistic director with other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education or an undergraduate degree in a relevant area of Music. A combination of education and/or comparable work experience (4 - 6 years) will be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
Experience in conducting choirs or directing musical theater productions.
Experience in curriculum implementation and musical arts workshops
Ability to mentor, motivate and empower youth
Knowledge of sensitivity to the LGBTQIA community, choral movement and the musical/artistic community.
Preferred Skills
Piano; ability to warm up a chorus and play from an octavo
Demonstrated programming that shows collaboration with diverse partners
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
