Join us as we digitally connect the world and shape the future.The RoleThe Damage Prevention Specialist will work with the field to help coordinate communication, analyze locate tickets, and establish relationships with excavators, internal and contract locators to meet established department guidelines for Cable Protection in Enterprise Field Operations. Your contributions will have an impact on the business by reducing damages on our network in key markets. The team you will be working with is close-knit and collaborative.Location and ScheduleRemote positionM-F 8am to 5pm CST or as the markets you are working in dictateThe Main ResponsibilitiesMonitor 811 dig tickets with internal and external locators by utilizing daily reporting from the RAM tool.Interact daily with excavation contractors to limit risk to the Lumen FOC network. Document and track daily using VUC Tracker.Develop and recommend processes and procedures to improve communications with and oversight of excavation contractors working near Lumen facilities.Coordinate efforts of Lumen in-house and contract resources on multiple, concurrent construction activities identified through the 811/One Call systems.Gather and review data using company resources and information received from excavators, determining sites/projects with significant and imminent dangers to the network; and coordinating face-to-face field meetings between Lumen and excavators.Provide feedback in support and development of the RAM tool.Work on assignments requiring judgment and initiative within pre-determined guidelines and subject to periodic review.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from all levels of the organization and a variety of external vendors.What We Look For in a CandidateRequired SkillsMinimum 1-2 years business experience in Construction related job responsibilities or the equivalent in training and experience. (Field locating experience a plus)Knowledge of Outside Plant procedures and standards.Experience with excavation contractors.Strong problem-solving skills.Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.Independently exercise sound judgment and ensure that issues are brought to the attention of appropriate personnel.Work overtime hours as needed to meet required timelines.Preferred SkillsProficient in 811/Cable Protection statutes for states of coverage.Proficient in fiber mapping database systems.Demonstrates working knowledge of theory and practices within a recognized field and/or specialized knowledge and skills.Working knowledge of buried fiber plant installation and protection schemes and systems including LMS and locating systems and locate ticket management through Utilisphere.Highly proficient in related software to include word processing, spreadsheets, and databases including advanced features such as macros, pivot tables, etc.Demonstrated organizational skills associated with project management.Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple projects/objectives.CompensationThe starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location.
