We create a culture of respect, trust and understanding for the highly diverse population we serve in our communities.This position works across the Public Health Division developing, coordinating, and implementing communications efforts to support the Division’s missions and goals.This includes supporting the Public Health Division Director in the creation of strategic communications plans for the division, telling the story of a modernized public health system, writing communication needs for the Public Health Director, representing the division in department, countywide and community needs, meetings and events, and responding to emerging and pressing communication needs facing the Division for and at the direction of the Public Health Director.As the

Public Health Communications Coordinator , your tasks will include:Content Development and CoordinationCreate communication materials aligned with health department goals.Promote public health stories and highlight strategies like Public Health Modernization.Communicate emerging issues like COVID-19 and Mpox.Collaborate with Health Department's web and social media managers to update web pages and create social media content for external audiences, aligning with platform strategies.Support the planning and coordinate Public Health Division events, including Partnership Fair and Public Health Week.Collaborate with the County Communications liaison to align public relations efforts, providing support as required, such as drafting press releases, composing news articles, and participating in relevant activities.Public Health Division Communications Coordination and SupportServe as a representative of the Public Health Division in various entities, such as the Health Department Communications and Marketing Team, Central County Communications, county-wide Communications Roundtable, and specific regional tri-county initiatives.Offer communication services and assistance to Public Health programs that lack dedicated communication staff.Manage extensive campaigns, update web content, plan and promote events, and establish contracts with external vendors.Coordinate communications and marketing projects and activities across the Public Health Division with an intentional focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.Strategic Public Health Division CommunicationsCreate and carry out a strategic communications plan for the public health division with the Public Health Enterprise Team.Collaborate with the Health Department Communications and Marketing Teams to promote division priorities.Coordinate with stakeholders to develop, coordinate, and implement communication plans and strategies.TO QUALIFY:We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required. This position is designated as “routine telework,” meaning you will be working remotely (from home); a hybrid schedule also is available. As with all routine telework positions, employees may be required to come into the office on occasion. The designation of Routine Telework may be subject to change at a future time. All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations. The onsite work location for this position is Gladys McCoy Building, 619 NW 6th Avenue Portland, OR 97209.Serving the Public, Even During Disasters:Everyday, Multnomah County staff work together to serve as a safety net for our communities. During a disaster, this safety net becomes even more critical. All County employees have a role in serving the public during inclement weather, natural disaster, or other types of community emergency response. During these emergency responses, while typically there begins with a call for volunteers, county employees may ultimately be reassigned from their current position to a role in the emergency response in order to support the critical needs presented by our communities.Diversity and Inclusion:
