We are looking for a Director of Mortgage Operations to join our team! The Director of Mortgage Operations will work at our corporate office in Metairie. This position is classified as Hybrid, which means that they will work in the office 2 or more days a week.

Primary Function:

The Director of Mortgage Operations will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the mortgage department, ensuring all mortgage processes are efficient, accurate, and compliant with both regulatory standards and company policies. This role involves managing a team of mortgage professionals, including loan processors, servicers, and closing staff. The Director will work closely with other departments such as underwriting, sales (Mortgage Loan Officers - MLOs), and compliance to ensure a smooth, customer-centric loan process. This role demands strong leadership, organizational skills, and extensive knowledge of the mortgage industry.

The Director of Mortgage Operations will assist employees and all appropriate internal credit union partners. Conducts daily business interactions and maintains constant alignment with OnPath's mission, culture, and core values. Encourages others to act with mission, culture, and core values in mind always. Demonstrates initiative and sound judgment in the absence of specific direction from management. Ensures value through decision making that supports credit union goals and interests. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the daily functions of the mortgage department, including processing, servicing, and closing of mortgage loans.
  • Monitor and manage the mortgage loan pipeline to ensure timely and accurate processing and closing of loans.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize workflow, enhance productivity, and minimize processing times.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of mortgage professionals, including loan processors, servicers, and closing staff.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide training, and identify opportunities for staff development.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that aligns with the credit union's mission and values.
  • Ensure that all mortgage operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations as well as company policies.
  • Implement and monitor quality control measures to minimize errors and mitigate risks.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in mortgage operations.
  • Work closely with the underwriting team to ensure accurate and timely loan approvals.
  • Collaborate with sales (MLOs) to provide excellent customer service and ensure a seamless loan process for members.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments, such as marketing and IT, to support mortgage initiatives and technology enhancements.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on mortgage operations performance, loan pipeline status, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior management.
  • Utilize data to make informed decisions and strategic recommendations to improve the mortgage department's performance.

Knowledge and Skills

EXPERIENCE:

Five years to eight years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

A high school degree or equivalent

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.

OTHER SKILLS:

Strategic thinking abilities, strong decision-making skills, and high emotional intelligence is required. Proficiency in conflict resolution, and effective delegation is essential. Exceptional time management and communication skills are vital, along with a commitment to fostering creativity, mentoring team members, and driving continuous improvement. Adaptability, customer focus, project management and financial acumen, are also necessary for success in this role.

ADA Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

MENTAL AND/OR EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace
