Job SummaryThe position is located in the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), Division of Health and Wellness (H& W). The mission of the Division is to support health & wellness by working with schools and community-based organizations to promote positive healthy behaviors and to improve the quality of life for children and youth in the District of Columbia. The Division is committed to excellence, joint accountability, reflective practice, and continuous improvement.The purpose of this position is to provide advanced level analysis pertinent to policies, including its formulation, implementation, and monitoring.Duties And ResponsibilitiesProvides advanced level policy related assistance, guidance, and advice to local education agency officers and staff to ensure appropriate policy implementation. Serves as a team lead in policy related projects or special assignments. Drafts and edits state level policy guidance. Performs policy-related functions related to supporting other units and divisions within OSSE as directed.Provides program consultation in the development of OSSE's Health and Wellness Data System. Consults with internal and external stakeholders to align District practices with reform efforts. Analyzes and researches federal and state regulations to make an informed best practices recommendations. Represents the Division in intradepartmental and interagency policy related initiatives.Qualifications And EducationMust possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 12 level in the District of Columbia service or its equivalent.Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position including, but are not limited to, providing advanced level policy related assistance, guidance, and advice to local education agency officers and staff to ensure appropriate policy interpretation and implementation; leading a team in policy related projects or special assignments; or other similar work.Licenses and CertificationsNone.Working Conditions/EnvironmentWork is normally performed in an office environment. Occasionally, the incumbent may be required to visit various locations within the District of Columbia.Other Significant FactorsTour of Duty:
