Department SummaryIncumbent manages financial accounting and reporting for School funds which includes state funds, contracts and grants, philanthropy, sales and services, and tuition/fees. Provides detailed and high level financial analysis through regular and timely reporting on all funding sources. Provides oversight over all school accounts and ensures that reconciliations and financial reports are prepared timely and accurately. Manages fiscal close and serves as the campus liaison with units within the School. Performs fiscal close tasks, including clinic journals, in a timely fashion with a high level of detail. Communicates with faculty and school administrators to provide timely and accurate financial accounting expertise, account balances, and reconciliations. Manages Foundation accounts and oversees financial transfers from Foundation funds. Supervises the staff in the Finance Office and serves as the unit content expert for University financial policies and procedures. Provides high level and detailed executive support to school administrators. Works in a fast-paced deadline driven environment with an ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to changing environment.

QualificationsAdvanced knowledge of general accounting principles. (Required)Demonstrated skill in forecasting budgets based on obtaining information regarding expenditures, liens, salaries and employee benefits. (Required)Skill in reading and analyzing financial documents, such as campus hardcopy and online financial tools. (Required)Working knowledge of campus payroll systems to reconcile payroll ledgers for assigned account/fund, and to advise Academic and Staff Personnel Offices of changes in salary source distribution. (Required)Knowledge of and skill in using the campus online financial systems (QDB), and other campus financial tools (BruinBuy Plus, TOF, CashNet, UCPath, and Concur System, Ascend). (Preferred)Knowledge of University of California accounting system, policies and procedures. (Preferred)Working knowledge of University travel policies and procedures. (Preferred)Working knowledge of University purchasing procedures. (Preferred)Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information with discretion. (Required)Excellent English writing skills to write concise, professional, and accurate administrative and financial reports, memos, forms and correspondence. (Required)Excellent English verbal communication skills to obtain and convey information with diplomacy and clarity, to speak on the telephone or in person to individuals or groups using appropriate vocabulary and grammar, and the ability to maintain a congenial relationship (Required)Familiarity with working in an academic environment. (Required)Demonstrated skill in analyzing monthly payroll expense distribution reports for the purpose of generating accurate and timely financial reports. (Required)Skill in assisting Principal Investigators and staff in understanding financial activity reports and preparation of University/School accounting forms. (Required)Demonstrated computer skills and ability to create, using IBM-PC and compatibles; Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel - chart, graph and table formatting, database and word processing software. (Required)Demonstrated ability to work independently, follow through on assignments with minimal direction, set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities and to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment (Required)Demonstrated mathematical skill to perform basic bookkeeping transactions accurately.
