CENTRO CULTURAL BACKGROUND

Founded in 1972 by migrant farmworkers, Centro Cultural del Condado de Washington (Centro) is a community institution for gathering, culture, and community building. Today Centro serves as a hub for: arts and cultural events; economic empowerment for families; community advocacy; supportive housing and stabilization; comprehensive food security services; public health initiatives; senior health and wellness; and year-round K-12 STEAM pathways. Our programs and services continue to evolve to meet the needs of our communities, removing barriers to health, well-being, and economic mobility to achieve prosperity and self-determination.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Centro Cultural’s Development Director tells the story of both Centro’s work and of our community, and brings investment to our community to address the challenges we face. The Development Director manages funder relationships, plans large events, oversees fundraising campaigns and oversees grant writing and procurement. A strong director actively works to identify and cultivate existing and new donors, partners and opportunities to catalyze impact. The Director collaborates with program directors to understand impact and investment. The Director also works closely with the Marketing and Communications Director to tell the story of Centro’s impact and needs of the community we serve. Importantly, the Director serves as an important Centro representative, driving investments with a racial justice lens in order to address systemic inequities in Oregon.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Development and Donor Stewardship

Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive development strategy aligned with the organization's mission and goals.

Regularly meet with and talk with community members, major donors, and institutional partners. This position entails a high level of direct contact with Centro supporters in a variety of venues and for a variety of purposes, such as to secure donations, carry out events, and develop new opportunities.

Oversee major gift cultivation and solicitation, as well as planned giving initiatives, to secure significant financial commitments from donors.

Manage high level relationships with corporate partners, foundations, and public sector institutional partners. Work with the team to track key communications and continuously strengthen relationships.

Work closely with the Board of Directors to leverage their networks and resources for fundraising purposes.

Identify and secure corporate sponsorships and partnerships to support events and programs.

Oversee signature fundraising events in the spring (Gala de Cultura) and in the fall (Economic Symposium) to gather key supporters, raise funds and communicate a clear call to action to constituents.

Develop and implement donor retention strategies to build long-term relationships with Centro’s stakeholders and supporters, which includes approximately 500 donors.

Ensure Centro is implementing data-driven strategies that result in a strong funding base for the organization, in order to maintain and grow programs. Includes working with the Development Manager to keep the organizational database up to date.

Grant Management

Oversee Centro’s grant management writing team, which includes screening, grant preparation, internal scoping, grant writing, submission and post-award communication.

Collaborating to Support a Strong Organizational Culture

Collaborate with Centro’s events team to organize and lead approximately six cultural events each year, such as Children’s Day and Hispanic Heritage Month, attended by approximately 2,000 people. Gather donations to support the event, invite people to participate.

Supervise Development Team staff. Assist in problem solving, secure resources that staff need to perform their job duties.

Performance Management:

Set performance goals and objectives for team members.

Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.

Identify training and development needs and coordinate appropriate programs.

Address performance issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Liaison with Centro’s Board of Directors to achieve fundraising goals and manage fundraising strategies.

Assist in creating a positive, safe, and supportive work environment.

Establish a culture of teamwork and communication; create a workplace that promotes the organizational values of compassion, respect, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

A passionate commitment to the goals and mission of Centro Cultural.

Understanding of Washington County Latinx community and ability to convey organizational goals and activities to funders, grant opportunities, and donors.

Proven ability to secure large financial commitments from individuals, corporations, and/or foundations, preferably 7 to 10 years of experience.

7 to 10 years’ experience planning and running fundraising events, such as Galas.

Ability to effectively manage a large workload with competing priorities and deadlines and produce high-quality, polished work in a flexible, high-stress, fast-paced environment.

Excellent relationship-building skill, solid writing and verbal communication skills, and strong project management skills.

Ability to communicate with funders and the public passionately and effectively about our mission, programs and priorities.

Ability to communicate to large audiences.

Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage up.

Management experience, preferably over 5 years.

Experience managing CRMs and databases in a fundraising context.

Understanding of website strategies.

Project management on large orders of design and print.

High level of professionalism through email, telephone and in person.

Bilingual Spanish-English preferred.

REQUIREMENTS

Complete Background Check.

Possess current driver’s license and auto insurance coverage.

Ability to travel out of town to attend workshops or trainings.

Regular evening and weekend work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is approximately 65% in an office environment and 35% in community locations for development and donor stewardship activities. Office working conditions are standard for an office environment. Community locations include fundraising and funding stewardship. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will:

Engage in regular communication in person as well as through electronic means.

Routinely use computer laptops, tablets, desk phones, photocopiers and monitors, including digital screens.

Ability to sit and stand for long periods.

Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds.
