Job Purpose

Support software and hardware development for the Advanced Rail Technology, Autonomous Train Operation (ATO) team in Fort Worth, TX. The Director of Engineering supports the technology projects:

Lead the engineering team which includes systems and software to create and maintain the platform according to the product plans.

For projects in the development stage, they coordinate with the Product and Deployment Director to ensure product roadmaps and release plans are aligned to engineering resourcing and task plans.

Collaborate with other Advanced Rail Technology product director to ensure alignment and execution of the software development lifecycle.

This role requires the ability to hire and manage a team of high performers to support the customer deployments.

Your leadership will drive the success of our platform, influencing both its development and its impact on the market.

The Director of Engineering will manage software and system engineering teams distributed within the United States and abroad with travel of up to 15%. This role requires the ability to hire and manage a team of high performers to support technology development.

The ideal candidate is an organized self-starter willing to take on different tasks to facilitate the development of core products and provide the highest values to our customers. The Director of Engineering will be responsible for delivering customer value in a fast-paced software engineering environment. Essential attributes include the ability to lead the team, function extremely well as a team member, and work at both the strategic and tactical level.

Key Job Elements

Build and lead a team of system, software, and hardware engineers in developing high-performing product solutions.

Collaborate with product stakeholders, customers, and architects to design resilient software solutions.

Collaborate with Product leaders to align product roadmap and architecture with strategic direction.

Drive architectural reviews and improvements of existing solutions and platforms.

Guide feature ideation, conceptual design, and user story creation to support an attainable and efficient design that follows best engineering practices and makes efficient use of resources.

Identify core challenges and decisions and determine approaches and strategies to handle them.

Overseeing project progress and costs; communicating status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; addressing and resolving problems.

Ensure the team meets project deadlines and maintains high-quality standards.

Lead global teams working on current product projects and processes.

Improve team productivity through effective management strategies.

Promote and support Agile methodologies such as Scrum to deliver quality software for customer deployments.

Recommend technical, process, and organizational approaches and changes to improve culture, features, technology, and implementation across.

Travel as required.

Education / Training

Required Education & Training:

Bachelor of Science in engineering or equivalent.

Preferred Education & Credentials:

Interest in Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence or Industrial IoT systems.

Interest and/or experience with autonomous vehicles.

Master degree in engineering or business is a plus.

Rail experience a plus.

Qualifications and Experience

8+ years of product or engineering leadership in a technical field.

5+ years of systems or software engineering management.

Proven track record (8+ years) in software development leadership, with significant experience in managing complex software projects.

Strong project management skills, with certifications in Agile, PMP, or similar methodologies preferred.

In-depth understanding of software development best practices, quality assurance, and modern development tools and environments.

Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and collaborate with other directors to achieve strategic goals.

Ability to travel up to 25% both in US and abroad.

Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
