Reporting to the Senior Director, Executive & Internal Communications, the Director will support the Office of Communications in implementing and executing an audience-based communication strategy that informs, engages, and inspires both internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, students, clinicians, staff, health care consumers, prospective students, and the general public.

Specifically, the role will develop written and verbal messages for multiple internal channels, including the school’s intranet (MyYSM), town halls, emails, newsletters, and digital monitor displays to amplify – and engage the YSM community in – the school’s mission, values, and strategic goals and priorities. This work also involves supporting the development, execution, and ongoing measurement of a comprehensive communications program to inform and engage YSM and Yale New Haven Health System employees in the YSM/YNHHS alignment efforts.

The director will also serve as the primary relationship manager with approximately 25 YSM departmental communication officers to foster and facilitate collaboration among – and support – the community of practice. This work involves establishing communication best practices for YSM and its departments to promote consistency and coordination across all school communications; supporting the departmental communication officers as strategic advisors to leadership and communication SMEs regarding faculty accomplishments and departmental research, clinical, and educational programs; ensuring departmental communications ladder up to institutional strategic goals and priorities; guiding the communication community of practice in navigating ongoing change and in continually driving efficiency, innovation, and progress in support of YSM’s strategic priorities; and managing the hiring and onboarding process for new communication officers. As part of these efforts, the director will contribute to YSM’s digital strategy by guiding the YSM departmental communication community in developing high-quality web content that elevates reputation.
