About the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology

The H. Milton School of Industrial and Systems Engineering is a leading unit within the Georgia Institute of Technology. Job Summary

The H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking a dynamic and innovative educator to join our team as an Academic Professional or Senior Academic Professional rank. This full-time, non-tenure track position is focused on enhancing our curriculum through Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Technical Communication. Ideal candidates will have a robust background in developing engaging, project-based courses and a proven track record in integrating technical communication within an engineering context. We are particularly interested in individuals who are passionate about advancing students' engineering communication skills and who have demonstrated excellence in educational innovation.

This appointment is hybrid eligible.

Responsibilities

Curriculum Development:

Design and implement project-based learning modules for industrial engineering, integrating comprehensive writing and communication tasks. Work closely with faculty to incorporate project-based learning and communication-focused assignments into existing courses. Offer ongoing support and resources to faculty and provide direct communication assistance to students within these courses.

Student Support:

Serve as a key resource for both undergraduate and doctoral students, offering advice and support for communication-related assignments, including professional technical report writing to a variety of audiences, thesis proposal writing, scientific paper writing, thesis writing, and grant proposal writing.

Course Creation:

Develop a 1-credit course aimed at freshmen and transfer students. This studio course will introduce the industrial engineering major, its various specializations, and core concepts.

Program Coordination:

Consult with the Director of Technical and Professional Communication to confirm that communication support services align with the strategic objectives of the school's communication program.

This position represents a unique opportunity to influence the educational experience of students at one of the leading engineering schools in the country.

Required Qualifications

This is an open rank search. The final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with non-tenure track academic faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2.2 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook (https://www.policylibrary.gatech.edu/faculty-handbook/3.2.2-non-tenure-track-academic-faculty-members-hiring-and-promotion-guidelines).

Academic Professional

Terminal degree in Industrial Engineering, Operation Research, English, Technical Communication, Engineering Education, or a related field

Significant related experience or promotion from the rank of Associate Academic Professional (or equivalent)

Quality of performance and potential development must be recognized by peers.

Senior Academic Professional

Terminal degree in Industrial Engineering, Operation Research, English, Technical Communication, Engineering Education, or a related field

Evidence of superior performance in the chosen field

Recognition by peers (whether national, regional, or local)

Successful and measurable related experience

Five (5) years or more as an Academic Professional (or equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Experience

Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing project-based learning initiatives and technical communication within an academic or industrial setting.

Experience teaching at the university level is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies

Strong proficiency in curriculum design and the ability to effectively integrate project-based learning into courses.

Expertise in technical writing and the ability to coach others in effective communication, both written and oral.

Proven ability to collaborate effectively with distinctive teams of educators and students.

Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

A commitment to the educational development of students and a passion for continuous improvement in teaching methods.
