Senior Tax Controversy Associate Attorney

to join their practice in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive background in tax controversy matters, including tax court litigation, tax audits, disputes, and appeals. The candidate will work closely with a team of attorneys and support staff, providing expert guidance in federal income and estate/gift tax issues. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled attorney with a strong background in tax law to advance their career in a dynamic legal environment.Duties and Responsibilities

Represent clients in tax court litigation, including preparing for trials and handling procedural matters.Handle tax disputes, audits, and appeals, offering strategic guidance and advice to clients.Provide legal counsel on complex federal income and estate/gift tax issues.Conduct legal research, prepare legal documents, and draft motions, pleadings, and briefs.Engage in settlement negotiations with the IRS or other tax authorities on behalf of clients.Collaborate with clients to develop tax strategies and ensure compliance with relevant tax laws.Work independently and as part of a team on tax controversy cases, coordinating with paralegals, support staff, and other attorneys.Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.Stay up-to-date with tax law developments, including changes in regulations and litigation procedures.Participate in firm initiatives to improve workflow, client service, and business development efforts.Requirements

Experience : 8-10 years of experience in tax controversy matters, including tax court litigation procedures, tax disputes, audits, and appeals.Credentials : Must be admitted to practice law in at least one state (preferably Georgia, Texas, or Pennsylvania).Preferred Experience :

Prior law firm or accounting firm experience.Government experience with the IRS or DOJ-TAX is a plus.Clerkship experience in Tax Court is highly preferred.

Education and Certifications

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.Preferred : LL.M. in Taxation, degree in Accounting, or CPA license.Skills

Exceptional oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.Ability to work independently and efficiently while collaborating in a team-based environment.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a deep understanding of tax law.Ability to manage multiple cases and projects simultaneously with efficiency and precision.Proficient in legal research and writing, with the ability to craft compelling arguments and legal briefs.Location
