Senior Tax Controversy Associate Attorney

with 8-10 years of tax controversy experience to join its team in Atlanta, GA. This position is ideal for an experienced tax attorney with a strong background in tax litigation, tax disputes, and tax audits. The candidate will work closely with clients on federal income, estate, and gift tax issues and must possess the skills to handle complex tax matters independently and within a collaborative team setting.Key ResponsibilitiesRepresent clients in tax controversy matters, including tax audits, tax disputes, tax appeals, and tax court litigation.Manage and advise clients on federal income, estate, and gift tax issues.Handle all aspects of tax litigation, including pre-trial discovery, drafting motions, trial preparation, and trial proceedings in tax court.Work directly with the IRS and other government agencies, including preparation for negotiations, hearings, and settlements.Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents related to tax controversy cases.Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff on tax litigation strategy and case management.Provide expert guidance on tax compliance and risk management to ensure clients are aligned with federal tax regulations.Communicate complex tax issues to clients clearly and concisely, offering strategic legal advice and solutions.Build and maintain client relationships, acting as a trusted legal advisor on tax matters.RequirementsMinimum 8-10 years of tax controversy experience.Practical experience with tax court litigation procedures, tax disputes, tax audits, tax appeals, and tax court trial experience.Experience with federal income, estate, and gift tax issues.Prior law firm or accounting firm experience is highly preferred.Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment, with a collaborative approach to solving complex legal issues.Admitted to practice in at least one U.S. state (Georgia, Texas, or Pennsylvania are preferred).Education and CertificationsJuris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.CPA license, LL.M. in Tax, or a degree in accounting is strongly preferred.Experience working with the IRS or DOJ-TAX, or a Tax Court clerkship is highly desirable.Skills and CompetenciesStrong knowledge of tax litigation, federal tax laws, and tax regulations.Excellent written and oral communication skills with attention to detail.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to strategize on complex tax matters.Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.Proficiency in legal research and legal writing.
