DescriptionLeading the Office of Global Education, the Associate Director of Global Education provides strategic leadership to develop and promote global learning for New College students through a high-impact international or domestic study away experiential learning experience as part of their academic program. This position manages program development and promotion, study abroad and study away student recruitment, advice, and preparation, program participant tracking, learning assessment, and collaborates across campus to integrate global learning into the student experience. This position will direct the creation and expansion of semester-long and short-term international and domestic exchange experiences by managing an active portfolio of programs, identifying and building new partnerships for exchange, faculty-led, or virtual programs, measuring learning outcomes, promoting opportunities, collaborating across campus, and implementing policies and best practices for health, safety, financial, and risk management. Reporting to the Dean of Career Success and Experiential Learning, this position is a member of the Career Success and Experiential Learning leadership team within the Academic Affairs division that aims to prepare all students for their future through coordinated efforts to develop professional early career pathways and scale career readiness.

Examples of Duties

Global Education Office Leadership

Leads all aspects of the College’s Global Education Office including identifying, developing, managing, and promoting study abroad and domestic exchange opportunities

Opens/closes office and publicizes office hours

Collaborates with Dean and Career Success leadership team on the development of program strategic goals, priorities, and plans

Outreach & Student Advising

Promotes study abroad and study away programs to prospective and current students

Leads bi-annual study abroad fairs connecting students directly to opportunities

Advises students planning to study abroad/away on identifying programs aligned with student career and academic interests and College policies and procedures

Serves as campus advisor and contact for inbound exchange students and collaborates with campus offices on their orientation, registration, housing, and other transition needs

Liaisons with faculty academic advisors on student academic advising needs and questions (degree requirements, course transfers)

Prepares students for global experiences and cultural exchanges

Develops and publishes study abroad advising resources

Partnership & Program Management

Ensures study abroad programs operate efficiently and safely

Manages registration processes and required record-keeping/forms in Terra Dotta system for all students traveling internationally for academic purposes

Serves as the first line of on-call response for in-country emergency situations

Manages and develops relationships with a variety of study/abroad external partners and program providers, vetting new partners

Serves as campus coordinator for domestic exchange programs including National Student Exchange (NSE) and EcoLeague

Initiates, develops, publishes, and advises on policies and procedures for study abroad/away and program administration in collaboration with Provost’s Office, Registrar, Finance Office, Foundation, and Legal Affairs

Assists with campus-wide efforts to develop professional pathways and scale student career readiness as part of the Academic Affairs Career & Experiential Learning leadership team.

Budget, Administration & Report Writing

Develops and maintains a database of student participation, applications, liability/safety forms, transcripts, and/or related off-campus study records.

Writes reports to leadership on student program participation and outcomes

Develops and maintains accuracy of information on NCF and Terra Dotta webpages

Develops and maintains an annual budget with multiple funding sources

Collects fees related to certain programs including NSE

Supports program fundraising efforts and the pursuit of grant funding in collaboration with Dean and Foundation

Collaborates with Office of Communications & Marketing and Provost’s Office to promote stories related to global engagement

Assists with inputting first-destination records to track early career outcomes

Supervises student or part-time staff

Campus Collaboration & Global Learning Curriculum Support

Collaborates across campus to develop and promote curricular and co-curricular international/global learning experiences

Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop and expand short-term faculty-led study abroad programs, including coordinating related committees with affected offices

Writes curriculum/lessons/workshops that teach global learning and intercultural fluency as a career readiness competency and high-impact practice as outlined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U)

Student Learning Assessment & Evaluation

Implements strategies to assess learning for study abroad/away participants ensuring effective development of global learning skills and competencies including the ability to articulate the value of experiences based on student academic and career aspirations and goals

Continuing Education & Engagement with the Profession

Promotes the highest standards and ethics in accordance with national best practices provided by the Association of International Educators (NAFSA), the American Council on Education (ACE), and related field-specific professional associations

Demonstrates a commitment to advancing skills by maintaining membership and engagement with relevant literature, research, books, articles, trainings, conferences, and professional associations

Other duties as assigned

Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree in an appropriate area of specialization (e.g., foreign languages, international studies) and four years of appropriate experience or Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization (e.g., foreign languages, international studies) and six years of appropriate experience. Demonstrated knowledge of study abroad and intercultural engagement and providing advice to college students.

Preferred QualificationsThree years of full-time work in higher education or with a study abroad program provider. Preference given for experience in study abroad program development, study abroad student advisement, liberal arts or honors education, and demonstrated success collaborating with faculty and establishing relationships with external entities. Proficiency with technology including student information databases, Terra Dotta, and learning management systems (Canvas).
