Job Summary

Hoag, Orange County's top ranked healthcare system is seeking a Principal of Risk Management to lead our risk management program.

The Principal Sr. Risk Management will play a pivotal role in maintaining Hoag’s reputation for safety and trust. This individual will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks to ensure the highest level of patient care and safety. Key responsibilities include the following:

Developing and implementing risk management strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with organization’s objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Leading and mentoring a team of risk management professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and support to drive performance and professional growth.

Collaborating with senior leadership, including the CEO, CFO, and other executives, to define risk management goals, priorities, and budgets.

Identifying, assessing, and prioritizing risks across all areas of the organization, including operational, financial, regulatory, and reputational risks.

Developing and implementing risk mitigation plans and controls to manage and reduce identified risks to acceptable levels.

Conducting risk assessments, audits, and reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of risk management processes and controls.

Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies, and liaising with regulatory authorities as needed.

Building and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, regulators, and industry associations to stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and regulatory developments.

Providing education and training on risk management practices, conducting risk assessments, and monitoring trends to proactively identify potential risks and opportunities for improvement.

Collaborating with external legal counsel on litigated files, responding to discovery requests and assisting in formulating defense strategies.

Performing claims analysis, managing files, and working closely with insurance companies.

Collaborating with TPAs to ensure alignment with company guidelines and best practices in claim handling.

Leading incident investigations and participating in root cause analyses to prevent recurrence.

Collaborating with clinical teams to enhance patient safety initiatives.

Participating in the management of insurance portfolios, including policy renewals.

Providing training and support to staff on risk management practices.

Protecting the rights of the patient, providers, and the facility.

Exhibiting quality in leadership skills.

Promoting process improvement.

Promoting activities to protect all assets of the hospital.

Projecting an image of professionalism in communication, appearance, and conduct.

Supporting the hospital mission and values.

Education and Experience

Required: Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred: Juris Doctorate and/or Master's Degree

Minimum of 7 years risk management experience.

Minimum of 5 years of clinical work experience (RN, LVN)

Necessary computer skills include the ability to format and present information in both Excel and PowerPoint.

An ability to format and present legal and clinical information in small and large group settings.

Certifications Preferred

Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Manager or within 2 years of hire date.

$175,000.00 - $250,000.00 per year
