The Director of Individual Philanthropy will work in collaboration with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and Philanthropy Team to develop and facilitate an overall fundraising strategy with focus on cultivating individual donors and nurturing those relationships through strategic engagement and stewardship. The primary responsibilities of the Director of Individual Philanthropy are to direct and administer all aspects of annual fund giving to include face-to-face and phone solicitation, direct mail, online fundraising, management of the fundraising database, along with designing & implementing a robust volunteer program.

We focus on the interests of each individual we support to ensure their well-being, dignity and right of choice. We provide services to more than 1,000 individuals daily across 25 North Carolina counties.

What you'll do:

In coordination with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and in collaboration with the Philanthropy team, create, implement and evaluate strategies that lead to sound donor cultivation, prospecting, segmenting, acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship in alignment with strategic goals.

Create, implement and evaluate the organization's annual fund campaign, including mailings, appeals, social media, reports and other relevant correspondence.

Responsible for donor development and strategies that lead to the growth of the annual giving program and support various donor cultivation, prospecting, segmenting, recognition, and stewardship activities and events.

Create an annual gift chart and follow the process to solicit and receive gifts of up to $25,000 from donors for a minimum of $300,000 per year.

Responsible for all aspects of direct mail and work collaboratively with graphics and print vendors for creative work, layout, printing and mailings of marketing and solicitation materials, event information, and other publications as needed.

Lead all annual individual fundraising strategies and tactics, including the Ambassador campaign, monthly giving and anniversary programs.

Serve as the Philanthropy Team liaison with the LIFESPAN Operations team (LOT).

Collaborate with LOT to design and facilitate a programmatic and geo-specific volunteer program with an emphasis on friend-raising and community engagement.

Collaborate with and assist the Director of Philanthropic Partnerships in designing and facilitating geo-specific events including follow-up.

Engage, recruit, train individuals and corporate volunteers, and manage all logistics of sponsored events as well as third-party events and other engagement opportunities.

Facilitate gift and data entry in Raisers Edge NXT or current database to ensure that pledges gifts and biographic changes are processed accurately and efficiently.

Maintain proficiency in the most current content and structural use of the donor database system.

Execute the specifications for standard and custom donor reporting.

Implement best practice data hygiene practices; management, augmentation and clean-up of existing data sources and ensure consistency and accuracy of data.

Oversee, manage and facilitate the gift acknowledgement process; generating, processing and mailing donor letters and thank you cards within 48 hours of gift receipt.

Work closely with Accounting Department to ensure donor database records are in line with organizational financial reports.

Participate as a team member with the Philanthropy Department in setting and implementing strategic goals and initiatives.

Coordinate with Marketing & Communications Manager around specific marketing strategies for donor communication, donor retention and donor solicitation across all platforms.

Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all LIFESPAN safety standards and regulations.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Non-Profit Fundraising or relevant field.

At least three years of related business experience required.

Excellent analytical abilities that can be applied in aligning the organization objectives with available funding opportunities.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Be able to professionally represent the organization and mission of LIFESPAN to a wide variety of businesses, organizations, and individuals.

This position supervises event staff and volunteer staff when and where appropriate.

Possess and manifest exceptional leadership skills and characteristics.

Be proficient with fund development databases (Blackbaud Raisers Edge preferable).

Be unafraid to make the ask.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor Degree in a Non-Profit Fundraising or relevant field with three to five years of related business experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to forty pounds with assistance. Will lift no more than forty pounds independently.
