This position entails the operation of equipment and other activities applying asphalt to roadbeds, parking lots, and airport runways to achieve daily production goals on construction projects.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms all work adhering to OSHA and H&K Safety policiesOperate asphalt paver or screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications as instructed by crew superintendent to ensure daily schedules/estimates are metMake normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade, and finished cross section of asphalt material via screed controlsOil, grease, and service equipmentManipulate hand or foot levers to control movement of machine spreads and levels asphalt on subgrade of highway and related surfaces such as parking lots, streets, etc.Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Skills, Education, and ExperienceThorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt pavingExperience with asphalt paver and screed operation in roadbeds, parking lots, and/or airport runwaysAbility to operate asphalt paver/screed within designated area with attention to detail and emphasis on craftmanshipAbility to guide and dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper when operating paverAbility to operate or initiative to learn other equipment required on an asphalt crewStrong verbal and written communication skillsProblem solvingAbility to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as neededAbility to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)
Preferred Skills, Education, and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent (such as the GED) from an accredited educational institutionFour years of experience with roller machines on highway road construction projectsExperience with other heavy equipment commonly used in highway road constructionOSHA or other relevant safety certifications
