The Communications Manager will be responsible for partnering across the organization to ensure high impact Site Services messages are delivered in an effective, cohesive, and engaging way. This person will create and implement Site Services communication campaigns targeted to various audience segments of the Genentech South San Francisco campus population. This person will align project teams and work with them to understand project drivers, benefits, challenges, and impacts to the campus population. They will learn about and be the voice of the employees to create effective, integrated, and meaningful communications.This person will be expected to bring a strategic voice to the table and be a connector for teams within the organization. Activities will include writing, editing and publishing a broad range of electronic and print materials to inform, inspire and engage Genentech employees. This person will be expected to partner effectively with corporate communications to ensure alignment of the Site Services narrative with the broader Genentech internal and external communications strategy and to provide appropriate Site Services content for use through corporate channels.This person will be expected to integrate change management tools into Site Services communications to ensure projects are successful by increasing employee awareness, understanding, and adoption (where relevant), and minimizing resistance.This position will report to the Site Services Head of Communications.Major ResponsibilitiesEstablish and drive campus-wide communication strategies, plans, and metrics that support Site Services' business objectives and priorities

Align communications planning and execution with other Site Services initiatives to influence message/brand consistency and a smooth customer experience across all channels

Advise on approach to complex communication initiatives, leveraging input from cross-functional subject matter experts

Partner with other members of Site Services to determine and deploy the best communication tools/channels (e.g. video, print, graphics) and strategies to provide different audiences with the information they need in a format that's easy to find and consume

Perform editing or writing assignments, ensuring alignment with overall communication strategy and Site Services narrative

Simplify complex messages while collaborating closely with one or more authors to ensure employees can easily and quickly understand the content

Apply change management concepts to high impact communication plans that involve a change

Conduct impact analyses, assess change readiness, and identify key stakeholders on communication strategies

Identify and manage anticipated resistance to changes

Consult and coach stakeholders in 1:1 and group environments on the best approach to effectively communicate the subject-matter; this includes an in-depth analysis of relevant information, audience, and goals by asking thoughtful questions that lead the team to the most impactful messaging

Partner on communications for the Site Services function as needed, including: town halls, organizational announcements, videos, presentations, newsletter, etc.

Independently prioritize workload, determine timelines, and operate under limited direction

Partner with corporate communications on projects that have a high impact on employees or are sensitive in nature

Lead web design projects including content design and execution in close partnership with stakeholders

Complete ad hoc web maintenance requests in WordPress to ensure Site Services' web content stays updated

Participate in video development projects, including writing creative briefs

QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degreeExperience / Skills:Proven ability to lead and implement communications strategies

Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Demonstrated ability to influence with or without authority, facilitate groups with diverse perspectives, bring teams to consensus/alignment

Ability to build rapport and trust with cross-functional teams

Strong prioritization, communication, and project management skills. Must be flexible and able to prioritize, make decisions and meet sudden deadlines in a fast-paced, energetic environment

Skilled at understanding multi-channel communication environments and appropriately maximising the right channel for the right message

Ability to think through the impact of the physical environment on communications and change management plans, including processes, engineering controls and signage

Ability to turn sophisticated ideas into stories easily understood by a broad audience

Technical knowledge regarding posting content to the web and how web content systems work

Independent self-starter able to write quickly under deadline with attention to detail and accuracy

Technical proficiency working with Google applications, Mailchimp (preferred), and WordPress (preferred)

Experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies and tools

Perform work under limited direction and guidance

Knows how to prioritize efforts and effectively lead time based on business needs

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $108,600.00 - $201,600.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
