We hire people that are skilled and passionate to meet our mission to end homelessness through outcome-based strategies which support personal and community transformation.The Claim and Insurance Manager is a part of Central City Concern’s (CCC) Law and Corporate Affairs division. The role works on behalf of CCC to protect against the financial impacts of accidental loss. Claim and Insurance provide support to all CCC programs and administrative units in the areas of claims management, workers’ compensation, claims recovery, strategic loss control, and indemnity.Claims occur most frequently in the areas of, professional liability, automobile liability, general liability, employment practices, and, workers’ compensation, and first-party property claims. The Claim and Insurance staff manage claims in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and pursuant to the delegations granted to the division as directed by the General Counsel.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Serves as primary contact for agency insurance matters, including claims, policy renewals, insurance certificates, and other duties.Shares pertinent claims information in a meaningful, constructive way to avoid, reduce, and mitigate risk.Manage a variety of claims, including, but not limited to employment practices liability, auto liability, general liability, property, and some medical professional liability claimsAdditionally, work in collaboration with CCC’s third-party administrators and other consultants in the management of claimsPerforming investigations, including in-person and on-site meetings, interviews, and site workDetermining appropriate coverage sources for entities and individuals named in claims and lawsuitsEvaluating liability and damages, setting and updating reserves accurately, analyzing defense and indemnification, consulting with experts, attorneys, and others, communicating clearly and fairly with claimants, selecting defense counsel, developing and implementing claims action plans, managing discovery, negotiating settlements within delegated authority; obtaining authority in excess of delegation, executing settlement agreements, preparing and monitoring a case through trial.Reporting and Communicating on Claims and Claim Trends, including communicating with the Executive Team, Human Resources, program divisions, and consulting professionals, making presentations to audiences of various sizes on claim trends and risk management, identifying and recommending policy changes related to liability lessons and trends, reporting claims to insurers as needed on claims and fulfilling their communication and timeliness requirements, reviewing applicable claim information with key departments, both through self-initiation and upon requestWork with a third-party administrator(s) on collaboration and meetings with CCC stakeholders and indemnitees, investigation techniques, settlement evaluations, negotiations, and CCC-specific mattersResearches and analyzes current or potential insurance policies/coverages and makes recommendations.Assists CCC programs with license renewals, applications, and site renewals.Processes Multnomah County property tax exemptions.Responsible for managing the CCCs archiving system including researching and creating retention schedules.Assists the Director of Enterprise Risk Management as needed.Assists with writing, revising, and monitoring Risk Management Policies.Researches and coordinates information for special jobs and projects, as assigned.Adhere to all state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, and to CCC policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security.⯠Support compliance with all privacy and security requirements pursuant to community partners' and outside providers’ patient confidentiality agreements, including privacy and security requirements for EMR access.⯠This includes immediately reporting any breach of protected health information or personal identifying information of any person receiving CCC services by CCC or an outside provider to the CCC Compliance Department, as well as to your supervisor or their designee.DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES:Completes other studies, special projects, reports, and duties as assigned.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and make presentations to large groupsAbility to analyze, interpret, and apply complex rules and regulations toward effective problem-solving and claim evaluationsAbility to develop and deliver presentations conveying claim trends and informationAbility to effectively and efficiently use computer systems and databases, including detailed data entryDemonstrated customer service skillsSuperior negotiation skillsStrong planning and organization skills and multi-tasking abilityDeadline-oriented and results-drivenAbility to effectively work as a team memberMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience with claims and litigation management, which may include: employment practices, general, auto, property, medical malpractice, and/or other claimsDemonstrated commitment to continuing education and skill developmentEquivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registrationMust be able to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliations, cultural backgrounds, lifestyles and sexual orientations and treat individuals with respect and dignityAbility to adhere to Central City Concern’s drug-free workplace which encourages a safe, healthy and productive work environment and strictly complies with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988.â¯An employee shall not, in the workplace, unlawfully manufacture, distribute, dispense, possess or use a controlled substance or alcohol.â¯Must have the physical ability to bend, stoop, twist, kneel, reach, squat, pull and lift up to 25 lbs.
