Responsibilities will include:

Work with interdisciplinary teams on research, design, and development for advanced digital designs and subsystems

Support the design and implementation of digital FPGA designs, including Firmware architecture and DSP algorithms

Collaborate with design leadership and systems, verification, software, hardware teams to design and implement digital subsystem solutions

Review designs and analysis, create subsystem requirement specifications and manage change during development process

Proven ability to drive complex technical problems to closure, meet schedule and budget, may lead a team.

Provide direction and oversight to internal and external design teams developing processor subsystems and components such as Custom Chassis, Backplanes, Single Board Computers, Multi-chip Modules, SiPs, SoCs, ASICs, and FPGAs. Perform integration and test for subsystems and modules.

Design and model specific aspects of advanced digital subsystems (e.g. power, throughput, cooling, storage, boot, IO latency and bottlenecks) with analysis and remediation to drive down risks and achieve performance objectives

Driven mindset fostering continuous learning, applying and driving improvement in internal engineering processes and flow.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Digital Engineer:

Bachelor’s degree 5 years of software engineering experience, or 3 years of experience with a Masters degree, or 0 years with a PhD. An additional 4 years of experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.

Must be a US Citizen.

Active DoD Top Secret Clearance.

Development and optimization experience in at least one of the following: Embedded Microprocessors, FPGA, Microelectronic Modules or Digital Signal Processing Algorithms

Experience in FPGA design with VHDL, AMD/Xilinx or Intel/Altera devices and EDA tools like Vivado, Questa, Quartus.

Ability to be cleared to special access programs.

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Digital Engineer:

Bachelor’s degree 9 years of software engineering experience, or 7 years of experience with a Masters degree, or 4 years with a PhD. An additional 4 years of experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.

Must be a US Citizen.

Active DoD Top Secret Clearance.

Development and optimization experience in at least one of the following: Embedded Microprocessors, FPGA, Microelectronic Modules or Digital Signal Processing Algorithms

Experience in FPGA design with VHDL, AMD/Xilinx or Intel/Altera devices and EDA tools like Vivado, Questa, Quartus.

Ability to be cleared to special access programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics or other related technical fields.

Active DoD Top Secret Clearance or higher.

Experience developing electronic subsystems, circuit boards, ASICs and/or FPGAs for aerospace and defense applications

Demonstrated expertise in field (e.g. journal published, patents)

Additional Domain knowledge and experience in some of the following or similar areas: Processing, RF Sensors such as Radar, Communications, Digital Receivers, Direct Digital Waveform Generation, Software Defined Radio, EA/ESM systems, EO/IR Sensors, Sonar and Acoustic Sensors, AI & ML, Multi-chip Modules, System in a Package, Hardware Emulation, Digital Twins, High Speed Interfaces or Embedded Networking

Experience in leading and mentoring a team, design reviews and analysis.

Experience with DSP algorithm development with MATLAB, and SimuLink.

Experience with digital architecture, FPGA physical constraints and achieving timing closure, Formal Verification, Agile process, CI/CD design flow.

Experience with board or system level integration, test and debug using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, MATE, Signal and Logic Analyzers.

Ability to be cleared to special access programs.

Salary Range:

$102,400 - $153,600Salary Range 2:

$127,000 - $190,600The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
