Summary:
Provides assistance and support to the surgical team by evaluating and coordinating activities during surgical procedures. ST / FA perform pre- and post-operative activities to facilitate optimal patient care. Education:
High School Diploma or GED is required.Certifications:
Certified Surgical First Assistant (CFSA) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA)Experience:
One to three years experience preferred.Responsibilities
Prepare and provide instruments and equipment during surgical procedures in the operating room under the direction of a registered nurse and/or surgeon.Prepare and position the patient for surgery, prepare the skin for surgical incision.Assist in visualization of the operating field by providing visibility with the help of retractors, sponges, suctioning or manipulating sutures.Provide assistance in controlling blood flow (through hemostasis, cauterization, clamps, tourniquets or pressure).Secure drainage systems to prevent the accumulation of fluid in the body post-operatively.Ensure the patient has adequate volume of bodily fluids during the surgery.Harvest surgical grafts.Perform closure of incisions (with sutures or staples).Apply wound dressings.Follow facility protocol and policy as well as other state and federal laws and regulations.Benefits
