Technical assistant for molecular biology and microscopy

The group of Prof. Jonas Ries is searching for a lab manager / technical assistant. The group "Advanced microscopy and cellular dynamics" is part of the Department of Structural and Computational Biology at the Max Perutz Labs and located at the Vienna BioCenter Campus. The Ries group develops super-resolution microscopy technologies for structural cell biology and uses them to investigate molecular machineries in cells.Open since Aug 12, 2024

About the position/ the research project

The successful candidate will assist the lab members on the biology/biochemistry side in their projects, including cell culture of mammalian and yeast cells, cloning techniques, protein purification, sample preparation for microscopy, and microscopy measurements. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for the organization of the daily laboratory operation, which includes the purchase, organization and management of laboratory equipment and consumables as well as the creation and maintenance of stock collections and the digital platforms that sustain and coordinate the daily work of the group. Among the responsibilities of the lab manager will also be the training and guiding of new lab members in all techniques used in the group, as well as compliance of the group with rules and safety procedures.The position is to be filled for 3 years with a possibility for an unlimited contract.Working hours: 40.00 | Classification CBA: §54 VwGr. Successful candidates should haveA Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.Excellent understanding of the theoretical and technical principles of common techniques in protein biochemistry and molecular biology, such as molecular cloning, protein expression and purification and biophysical characterization.Practical experience with molecular biology, molecular cloning techniques, protein purification, and biochemistry is essential; experience in mammalian cell culture is an asset.Experience with fluorescence microscopy is beneficial.The candidate should be willing to acquire further skills and contribute to the development of new methods.Excellent communication and organisation skills, fluent English, and a teamwork spirit are required.Application
