We store and manage data in a structured way to enable a multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer-friendly, mission-critical, AI-enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational, and OSS offerings.The Azure SQL team in Azure Data at Microsoft is responsible for Azure SQL DB, SQL MI, SQL VM (IaaS) cloud services, SQL Server on-prem and Arc enabled SQL Server. Together they power many of the world's mission-critical databases and are deployed by most of the Fortune 1000 companies. A key part of the database experience are the client SDKs we provide developers for connecting to the SQL family of databases all the way from on-premises to the cloud. These SDKs span a variety of languages and frameworks such as Python, Java, C++, C#, and related object relational mapping frameworks.We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer whose primary responsibility will be to enhance the JAVA database connectivity (JDBC) driver for Azure SQL family of database products. You will work closely with program and product managers on new data APIs that empower developers to seamlessly integrate Azure SQL databases into modern web, mobile, and microservice applications. Work with a team of engineers to design, implement, and maintain features in the JDBC driver for Azure SQL or develop a new SDK as the need arises.Work as a technical leader to mentor and ramp up new hires.Work closely with program and product managers to ensure we are prioritizing the right customer asks.Improve and monitor telemetry to assess the health of the product in both pre-release as well as released software and use this data to drive improvements into the quality of the product.Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in Java.OR equivalent experience.1+ Year Experience with LinuxOther Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Prior experience with building API libraries for application developers.Building applications/micro-services in Azure, AWS or GCP.A good understanding of database concepts and SQL.Experience working with the JDBC API and be familiar with its features and capabilities and the Java driver ecosystem.Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
