AdventHealth Kissimmee is an 83-bed community-focused hospital conveniently located near Walt Disney World. The team here is dedicated to bringing mission-focused, faith-based care to residents and visitors of Osceola and Orange Counties.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I performs various laboratory procedures in assigned areas as licensed/certified. Work customarily involves analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens, requiring a moderate to high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise in licensed area(s). Pre-and post-analytical work processes may also be included in the work duties, and on-call hours may be required. This role follows laboratory policies and procedures and maintains quality control practices in the laboratory.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs assigned pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing.

Executes all expected tests and analytical procedures efficiently and accurately.

Handles post-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, reporting results.

Provides orientation and training to new employees and medical technology students.

Guides technicians and support staff, resolving customer service issues.

Adheres to safety policies and demonstrates understanding of Chemical Hygiene and Infection Control policies.

Participates in laboratory and hospital Performance Improvement activities.

Performs various support activities to facilitate operation of assigned department.

Assists with data collection and special projects, as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE STRONGLY PREFERRED:

Technical skills related to laboratory testing, procedures, and processes.

Ability to work independently and adapt to varying priorities.

Ability to maintain equipment/records and perform quality assessment activities.

Ability to educate and train new staff in medical laboratory settings.

Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Associate's degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or related field.
