Job Summary

Leader responsible for planning and overseeing implementation of strategic priorities for the Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) programs. Will also oversee the contracted managed services provider(s) to ensure effectiveness of service delivery for all BSA/AML production activities. Works in close partnership with all BSA/AML department functions and business functional leaders to achieve goals. Reports to senior management on the Bank's BSA-related activities. Acts as Deputy BSA/AML Officer, serving as delegate to the Executive Director AML/BSA Compliance.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Serves as primary contact for the BSA/AML managed services provider, ensuring Synovus quality and timeliness standards are met. Will work closely with the internal BSA/AML/OFAC production teams, including the Financial Investigations Unit (FIU)/Operations, Customer Risk Unit (CRU), Sanctions Compliance, and Assurance teams to help guide and aid in usage of the managed services resources. Can include identification and implementation of recommendations for process changes, tools, resources. Review of performance metrics to ensure accountability.

Directs and manages projects for key strategic initiatives and improvement/enhancement efforts for the department. Responsible for management of strategic roadmap and preparing and delivering status communications on the individual efforts and overall strategic efforts to governance committees and stakeholders.

Partners with the Executive Director of BSA/AML Compliance to develop, implement and administer the Bank Secrecy Act compliance program, including mechanisms to monitor that all areas/departments of the Bank adhere to established policies, procedures and controls. Serves as a subject matter expert advising on aspects and applicability of the BSA/AML Program.

Stays up-to-date on regulations, industry trends and best practices related to BSA/AML compliance to ensure the bank's programs remain compliant, effective and efficient. Uses this information to identify key opportunities or recommendations for strategic initiatives. Actively seeks process improvements/efficiencies while maintaining technical guidelines and the spirit of the law and regulations.

Builds relationships throughout the organization to ensure effective execution of goals and initiatives. Works to represent BSA/AML Compliance across the organization.

Monitors the regulatory landscape for current and emerging risks to ensure strategic implementation and project prioritization for adherence to regulations including training and awareness that may impact cross functional business lines and systems.

Actively supports the Executive Director and BSA/AML division with interactions and requests from Audit and Regulators.

Serves as delegate for Executive Director of BSA/AML (BSA/AML Officer) on BSA/AML/OFAC matters and for risk governance committees, as needed.

Adheres to confidentiality policy, code of ethics and follow all policies and procedures relative to laws and regulations and best practice recommendations.

Manages coaching, development, performance and engagement of team members. Supports team members by maintaining openness and approachability and engaging with each team member individually to understand how to most effectively motivate. Builds a work environment where team members are engaged and feel a positive sense of achievement about their role in delivering elevated services. Uses quantitative and qualitative data to identify opportunities to coach team members.

Provides leadership, direction and growth opportunities to members of the department, performing those responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires plans, assigns and directs work. Appraises team member performance and works closely with senior management and Human Resources to resolve more complex team member-related issues.

Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Finance or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Experience:

Ten+ years of job related professional BSA, AML, and OFAC Compliance experience within the financial services industry with five+ years of supervisory/managerial experience in BSA, AML, and OFAC. Demonstrated skillset in project management through experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering laws, USA PATRIOT Act, OFAC, and other applicable U.S. Regulations

Experience with the varied aspects of BSA/AML Operations including investigations, customer due diligence, CTR, and OFAC.

Experience with project management tracking and reporting, preparing status updates for an executive audience.

Advanced knowledge of banking or finance industry and products. Skill analyzing, interpreting, and implementing Federal and State Banking Regulations

Skill writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

Strong communication and presentation skills

Proficiency using Microsoft Office software products

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Project Management skills and/or certification

Certification from any of: Association of Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialist (ACAMS), Associate of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACCFE), or Association of Certified Financial Crime Specialists (ACFCS)

Atlanta based preferred, will consider an incumbent based within Synovus footprint for extraordinary talent.

Broad experiences across the AML/BSA Compliance discipline is highly preferred.
