Role Description:

In the role of Lead Data Scientist, we are seeking a seasoned data science professional with a proven track record in leading and overseeing the execution of data science projects. As a lead data scientist, you will provide expertise in advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and risk assessment within the insurance context, and collaborate closely with business stakeholders to drive the development and implementation of advanced analytics solutions to contribute to SNCC's strategic objectives.

Your day-to-day responsibilities in this role will be:Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the data science team on project execution. Oversee end-to-end data science project delivery, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within scope, and meet quality standards.Identify opportunities for leveraging data science to enhance business processes, improve decision-making, and drive innovation.Provide guidance and direction to junior data scientists on analyzing large and diverse insurance datasets, and creating clear and insightful visualizations, reports and dashboards to communicate complex data findings and provide actionable insights to business stakeholders.Collaborate with stakeholders across departments, including underwriting, claim, actuarial, IT, and business development, to understand their needs, deliver data-driven solutions and drive data initiatives.Stay at the forefront of industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in data science within the insurance sector, and advise on the application of new methodologies and techniques in projects to drive innovation.Facilitate the implementation of best practices for data science, machine learning, and analytics within the team.

Qualifications:

Education:

Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or related discipline.

Required Qualifications:Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or related discipline.Proven experience (8+ years) as a Data Scientist, with a track record of successfully leading data science projects. Candidates with a Ph.D. degree and 4+ years of industry experience will also be considered. Experience in the financial service industry is preferred.Expertise in advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and risk assessment.Expertise in programming languages such as Python or R, along with proficiency in relevant libraries (e.g. Scikit-Learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, etc.).Extensive experience in working with relational database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, and cloud-based Data Warehouses such as Snowflake, along with advanced skills in writing complex SQL queries for data retrieval, transformation, and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:Ability to design and implement database models for the needs of data science projects.Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate at all organizational levels.Familiarity with insurance-specific data sources, regulatory requirements, and industry standards is advantageous.

In our vision to be First with Co-Workers, compensation is only one piece of the comprehensive total rewards package we offer. The target salary range for this position is $111K to $179K. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, and geographic location.
