Warren County is seeking highly motivated and skilled candidates to fill the position of Deputy Treasurer I or II. These are full-time positions that perform skilled clerical and technical work assisting with the operations of the Treasurer’s Office.These positions are responsible for receiving payments, recording receipts, reconciling accounts, and assisting the public. Other duties include:Receiving and processing payments for personal property and real estate taxes, sanitary districts, County decals, waste decals, business license dog tags, and estimated state income taxes.Answering calls from citizens, answering questions, and providing information.Counting and verifying cash and checks, and balancing the cash drawer.Assisting in mailing real estate, personal property, and sanitary district bills.Updating personal property and real estate addresses.Assisting with the debt set-off program and entering and processing bankruptcy information.Performing related tasks as required.Additional duties for the Deputy Treasurer II include:Assisting with the operations of the office.Preparing and maintaining books, records, and ledgers.Checking for paid or delinquent real estate taxes for title companies and attorneys.Collecting and auditing daily receipts.Preparing and submitting summary sheets.Processing estimated income and taxable year income accounts.Preparing cash sheets and posting to ledger.Preparing bank deposit certificates and balancing bank statements.Calling banks for investment quotes.Assisting in coding bills for escrow accounts requested from mortgage companies.Updating property records.Reconciling county records with the Virginia Department of Accounts.Totaling and endorsing checks on the check writing machine.Verifying assessment and money received agree.Entering data into the computer.Assisting with adding and deleting of debt set-off claims.Assisting and overseeing personnel engaged in the collection and receipt of county and state taxes, fees, and charges.Performing the duties of a Deputy Treasurer I as required.A successful candidate will have general knowledge for the Deputy Treasurer I, and thorough knowledge for the Deputy Treasurer II of the principles underlying the laws, ordinances, and regulations governing the operations of the Treasurer's Office; general knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of accounting; some knowledge of business and office practices; ability to analyze and interpret fiscal and accounting data and to prepare appropriate statements and reports; ability to operate standard office, word processing, and data entry equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school is required and some experience involving customer service is preferred for the Deputy Treasurer I, and any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school is required, and considerable clerical experience and some local property tax work is preferred for the Deputy Treasurer II.The starting salary for the Deputy Treasurer I is $33,508.80, the starting salary for the Deputy Treasurer II is $35,152.00, depending on qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package.Warren County is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE), and participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.A pre-employment criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening is required.
