The Student Access Specialist is a key member of the Student Access and Support Services (SASS) team, who works collaboratively with members of the SASS team to ensure institutional compliance with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Sections 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Primary responsibilities include educating both incoming and existing students about Middlesex Community College and policies and procedures; serving as an advisor to a designated cohort of students; performing administrative tasks to achieve departmental goals; and engaging in activities for professional growth and development.This position requires specialized experience in providing accommodations in a postsecondary setting to students with various disabilities and collaborating with various college departments as well as external agencies.Duties and Responsibilities:Interpret and analyze provided documentation (e.g., neuropsychological records, psycho-educational assessments) to determine eligibility for disability services and appropriate accommodations and support services.Meet with students to conduct intake interviews, resulting in the development and review of individual accommodations based on the student's disability and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehab Act.Formulate accommodation forms that state reasonable accommodations, make recommendations to the student, and provide information on roles and responsibilities in the delivery of the stated accommodations.Provide direct services in metacognitive strategies to students with documented disabilities during one-on-one tutoring sessions to include: assistance with time management, organizational skills, study skills, test-taking strategies, pre-registration advice, and self-advocacy skills.Establish ongoing contact with students to promote independent and active learning throughout the semester to monitor progress; assist students in navigating their needs for accommodations in the classroom with faculty.Promote self-awareness by reviewing assessment results with students and assist in their understanding of strengths and weaknesses and learning styles.Engage in proactive outreach throughout the semester to monitor progress.Provide resources to the college community including ongoing outreach and collaboration with faculty and professional staff to implement accommodations, provide information and support about internal departments (e.g., TRIO programs, Veterans Resource Center) and external agencies (e.g., State Human Service Agencies).Proctor tests or exams as needed, including instances outside of normal working hours.Engage, collaborate with, and facilitate referrals to internal departments such as Advising, Financial Aid, TRIO.Perform administrative duties, case notes, and record-keeping as related to the operation of the SASS office.Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in a related field requiredThree (3) years' experience and/or training that includes college-level learning disability services, learning disability assessment, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 504 compliance, development of policies/procedures, teaching, or curriculum development; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Demonstrated ability to evaluate disability documentation and make recommendations for accommodations and support services or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.Preferred Qualifications:Experience providing accommodations in a post-secondary setting to students with documented disabilities.Willingness for continuous learning of current issues relative to disabilities and accommodations in post-secondary settings and being informed of new adaptive technologies that support increased independence of students with disabilities.Professional and technical knowledge in applicable areas to maintain a working knowledge of assigned areas, including current knowledge of adaptive and assistive technology and of trends and best practices in disability services.American Sign Language skills a plusBilingual skills a plusSalary Range:

$63,288 is the starting salary with a Bachelor's Degree; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
