Position Overview:

In the absence of supervisor, performs delegated supervisory and administrative duties to include overseeing staff and activities within laboratory sections during assigned shift to generate accurate and reliable test results. Assists supervisor to evaluate technical performance of assigned staff.

Plans, assigns, reviews and evaluates work of assigned staff to achieve quality testing results, to operate in a fiscally responsible manner, to achieve operational efficiency and to adhere to established policies, practices and procedures.

Maintains accurate documentation required by regulatory agencies. Maintains accurate records, quality assurance records, and quality control records as required.

Assists supervisor to resolve technical, operational, system and other related issues on a timely basis. Takes appropriate corrective action when needed.

In the absence of supervisor, communicates with Capital Health (CH) administrative, medical, nursing and other staff effectively to ensure proper coordination and understanding of services.

Performs laboratory and special procedures as required and maintains proficiency in all procedures within designated section.

Evaluates proper safety precautions and infection control measures are being followed to ensure safety of patients, staff, and others. Performs proper infection control techniques for testing. Monitors performance of equipment and takes appropriate measures to ensure proper and safe operation of equipment. Monitors performance of preventive maintenance schedule to ensure timely performance.

Performs required administrative and clerical functions to ensure proper and efficient operation. Assists supervisor to maintain adequate inventory of operating supplies in order for department to run smoothly. Communicates with vendors as required. Inventories equipment and supplies to ensure an adequate level is available to meet functional needs. Assists supervisor to prepare timely and accurately a variety of reports and records as required.

Assists supervisor to evaluate operations, quality assurance, quality control, adequate inventory of supplies and individual performance. Enforces and follows established CH and departmental policies, practices, and procedures.

Trains employees and conducts competency assessments on staff. Assists in direction of work. Assists supervisor to appraise performance. Addresses complaints and resolves problems.

Oversees operations at both campuses and deploys staff between sites based on workflow needs.

Utilizes chain of command to escalate issues.

Actively monitors workflow and makes adjustments in real time to meet turnaround time targets.

Demonstrates accountable leadership with outstanding interpersonal skills, both verbal and written to foster positive staff engagement and team dynamics. Demonstrated good time management skills.

Performs other duties as assigned and possesses a willingness to adapt to changing department demands.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in science related field. Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory sciences (MLS) preferred. HEW certification as a medical technologist in lieu of BS degree. American Society of Clinical Pathologist certificate (ASCP) preferred.

Experience: Two years clinical laboratory experience as follows: Generalist Lead: chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, microscopic evaluations on all fluids, molecular testing and specimen processing. Including all functions in microbiology and blood bank listed below. Core Lab Lead: chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, microscopic evaluations on all fluids, molecular testing and specimen processing. Blood Bank Lead: blood bank and transfusion medicine including identification of multiple antibodies, neonates and Trauma services. Microbiology Lead: Microbiology and molecular diagnostics.

Knowledge and Skills: Excellent communication skills. Advanced technical and operating skills and proficiency and conducting competency training in all aspects of automated and manual testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting in the specific disciplines described.

Special Training: Intermediate computer skills. Completed a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) program.

Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities: Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with individuals and teams to produce outcomes and cultivate a positive work environment.

Usual Work Day: 8 Hours

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Lifting Floor to Waist 20 lbs. Lifting Waist Level and Above 20 lbs.

Sensory Requirements include: Very Accurate 20/40, Near Vision, Accurate Far Vision, Color Discrimination, Moderate Depth Perception, Accurate Hearing.

Anticipated Occupational Exposure Risks Include the following: Bloodborne Pathogens, Chemical, Airborne Communicable Disease.

Offers are contingent upon successful completion of our onboarding process and pre-employment physical.
