Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Controller and/or their designee, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the company financial procedures, records, and statements for compliance with law and regulation.

The Senior Accountant:

Assists with the preparation of the organization’s financial statements;Maintains and balances General Ledger accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies, prepares adjusting and closing journal entries;Reconciles balance sheet and income statement accounts on monthly basis to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance;Works closely with the grant accountants to ensure that entries posted to the general ledger by the grant accountants are accurate;Works with the payroll and accounts payable staff to help prepare and post journal entries in the general ledger that affect payroll and accounts payable;Prepares schedules, support documentation for External Auditors.Periodically reviews the organization’s financial and accounting policies to ensure that they are consistent with the finance department practices and makes recommendations to update those policies to ensure consistency in the policies and practice.

Essential Job Functions

Maintain a financial accounting system to ensure that the company’s financial statements are accurate and prepared in a timely manner.The Senior Accountant will:Assist with budget preparation٫ accurately and timely.Review and manage Accounts Payable and Payroll (as needed).Perform a credit card reconciliation by matching business expenses with credit card statements.Produce timely and accurate accounting reports from Sage Intact and assist with budget variance analysis and trend reports.Prepare external financial reports, including the annual agency cost report, indirect cost calculation, and assist the external auditing firm with the preparation of the annual IRS Form 990 and 5500 for the 403(b) plan, along with other regulatory reporting as needed.Assist with preparation of Federal and State single audit binder schedules as needed.Work with multiple departments to prepare internal and external reportsReview and analyze financial data and create reports on financial status based on the analysis resultsSupport business processes and accounting policies and prepare corresponding documentation.Develop recommendations to optimize company's accounting systems and procedures and detect inaccuracies.Ensure that accounting procedures comply with GAAP requirements.Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related fieldNonprofit accounting experienceFamiliarity with regulatory reporting, including IRS Form 990 and 5500, and Federal and State single auditsExperience in preparing internal and external financial reportsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and collaboration abilitiesExperience with Sage Intacct preferredAbility to manage and supervise staff accountantsCommitment to process improvement and implementing best practices
